  • Identify this 5spd Shifter! What is it from???

It's bolted into a Beretta, but I do not think it's from any Beretta... It's not a 2000+ Jbody, those look different.

    1) Notice it is bolted down with rubber isolators, the whole thing moves when you shift side to side...
    2) The select cable attaches at the far back, the cable was modified to reach there.
    3) The shift cable does not really fit the ball socket on the arm which is large and fat. Worn out and won't even stay on now.
    4) The shift arm instead of going straight up, goes up, angles almost 45* to the right, then angles straight up again. 4th and Reverse hit the e-brake handle...

    What is this?!?!

Ya that definately is not from a beretta. In fact, it does not even look GM. It looks import, like someone hacked it from a civic and welded it to the base to fit our cars..LOL.

    Or maybe Fiero?

Nope, this is something newer than that. Fiero looks like beretta.

Its not Civic from what I've seen. Maybe Accord, but from the pics I've seen, they don't use a ball pivot either... But the accord metal base does look close....

The side to side movement (select cable) goes all the way behind the shifter where the cable attaches. The bright white cylinder is what is holding on some sort of metal eyelet that was welded to the shift cables.

Hmm. I'll keep looking at pics, so far nothing like it.

98-99 J-body looks like it from this, but I need a real pic to confirm. Might be two shifters welded together?

BTW that site has all kinds of transmission exploded diagrams and stuff. neat.

Here is the front of the base of the shifter. Notice there is no clips just welded the cables to it.

Here is the back side. Notice the side to side cable how it's attached.

Another shot. Looks like a 95-99 J body shifter up top, but the base confuses me. Rubber isolated and the front looks like a L body base the way the cables go in. Maybe welded two together, and added rubber bushings???

Here is showing how the shift arm bends at a strange angle to clear another console to some other car.

At this point I have a couple options.

                            1) Get L body cables and shifter and be done with it (assuming I can find cables)

                            2) Fix the one cable (drill out the ball socket, and put a bolt on). Take apart the shifter and cut and re-weld the shift arm straight. I would still need something to bolt the center console to. Are the bracket it bolts to separate from the shifter assembly?
