  • Alero/GA 3400 w/ 2.4 5-speed?

As in the title. I'm wondering if its possible (or would work good) to put a 5-speed trans from a 2.4 Alero/GA and put it on a 3400. Since 97+ GTP is out of the equation right now (91 octane and gas prices) I'm thinking an Alero would be a good car, if only they make the V6 with a 5-speed.

Also is the 5-speed in the 2.4 the same as the 2.2 pushrods in the j-bodies?

the actual transmission itself is a 287, BUT the 2.2 pushrod engine from a J-Body would be the trans you would have to use. The DOHC engines have a different bellhoushing on the trans.

    then there's the wiring/computer issues....

Can someone post what kind of work it would be to do this tranny swap? Is there anybody in Ontario that does this and what kind of cost would I be looking at to get it done?

there is a V6 trans avabile from the factory, but it's only avilible on the SE modle. I've looked into a trade in on my GT, but I'd be loosing HP and a all around better motor! The onle thing i do know is that the subframe is different, and then the mounting brackets for the peddles and the brake boster are in a different place i think. hope this info helps!
