  • Ep lsd 4t45-e

I'm thinking about getting a EP LSD street, but only to improve traction on ice/snow. I was hoping to get some feedback.

    1999 Alero, 3500, 4t45-e 3.29fdr.

I know with the 3400, it had issues keeping traction on dry pavement. Without traction control. Would LSD cause issues at higher speeds? Would the car to be more unstable on ice/snow at higher speeds? I would think it wouldn't be locked so it shouldn't make a difference. But it would add traction at lower speeds and at take off.

The tires are fair, but not seasonals so I'm putting new seasonal tires on once the car is finished in a few weeks. I'm waiting on a cam/pushrods. So I have a few weeks to mess with other ideas while the transmission/motor are out of the car.

Do you have a lead on an LSD that is currently available? If not, and you are going straight through Jeff at EP, then I wouldn't be worried about how it handles in snow/ice. At least not for this winter...

If it's just for snow and ice traction than the phantomgrip or team green insert kits might be enough. They're cheaper and you'll get either a heck of a lot sooner. EP's LSD's are on a several months-long waiting list.

I sent a e-mail to them to get a time frame.

Jeff quoted 7 days which would be okay since I won't have all the parts
until at least the 9th. But if there is a waiting list months long that would
be too long. I don't want to have to have the transmission tore out a few
            months from now.

The transmission shop I talked to said they wouldn't put the inserts in because the
4t45e isn't designed to take any horsepower and the inserts would just burn the diff
up after about a block so he wouldn't be willing to warranty the work.

I guess the question is, are the inserts worth it and would anyone have a brief run
down of the work required? I found a overview for a Getrag, but I'm not sure if a
              auto is really that different.
