'88-91 are supposedly stronger, but in reality they're all pretty much the same.

i beat the living hell out of my 91 trans and other than the 2nd gear syncro having issues it's holding up great for having 142K miles.

is that due to the internal/external slave differences? or something else?

91 was the last year the V6 282's were made by Muncie, NVG took over production from 92-94.

the external slave has benefits over the internal.. but it also has some drawbacks like the clutch fork bearings and the wearing of the fork tips.

that's some of my bad luck from a few weeks ago..

Bent a cable!? What did you do, reach up with your foot to kick it in gear? lol I knew you didn't look like a stick boy, but I didn't think you were the Hulk either

I've bent a cable before. I then switched to a newer set of cables and modified the matching shifter a bit. It was a real bitch to shift in to 1,3,5 until I changed the cables.

I shortened the linkage for the forward and back motion on my 284 in the 92 to make it short throw. It ended up pulling the cable to the side some since it was meant to be about 3 inches long and now it is around 2", but I've still yet to bend one. Then again, my transmission would cost me $3k to get fixed, and it's original with 145k miles on it and still shifts good when it's warm. It's a little stiff when cold, but the way I figure it, you shouldn't be banging gears on anything cold anyways
