5 Speed Headache

Does anyone know where I can get a rebuilt Getrag 284 (5 Speed Manual) other than through GM... I really only need the synchros but they don't sell individual internal parts... only the whole she-bang. GM wants like US$1895.00 AFTER a $3000 Core charge!!! Can I find them rebuilt anywhere else for cheaper? Or should I start calling around the world for a junked 5 speed (yeah right... like anyone would junk a 5 speed and not be gutted already)? Also... if you have a spare 284 lying around... I know someone (me!) who would gladly tote it home! =)

There is a guy on ClubGP selling a 284 that has 90k on it. The 4th gear synchro grinds, but thats all. His name is "SoccrplayrGTP". He wants $400 for it.

check www.car-part.com i saw one on there the other day for 450, and at www.gmpartsdirect.com the tranny is 1600 plus the 3k core.

I'll give that guy a shout this afternoon (in school right now). I don't really use 4th gear too much anyways... and my 4th gear synchro is fine, I might be able to use the synchro from my current tranny? =) Awesome, thanks a ton man!

There is/was a Z34 5 speed down the road from me for 500 bucks. Engine is screwed but I heard the rest of it was good. I never looked for it and the guy that mentioned it was on GMF.

Anyway, just go to a junkyard and look...you never know. Nico got the one in my car now for 250 or something insane like that cause the yard didnt know the 284 and 282 were different.
