  • Making Getrag 282 Mounts

Seeing how these mounts are discontinued and any existing one is probably flimsy/ on its way out, me and a highly skilled professional welder buddy of mine are going to make solid transmission mounts for my w-body 282. We are going to start out with about 20 for the first batch! The plan is to use 1/2 inch hardened rubber/poly material as shock absorber and the rest of the mount heavy duty mig welded solid cast iron construction for increased durability , ultimatley preventing unwanted movement. Black texture coated ,stainless steel studs welded in place and SS nuts will be included.

Edit* These mounts are on the way, will update with pics when done. A lot has gone into these to ensure high quality. They are going to be really nice. stay tuned.

    this could be interesting......

how about a poly shock absorber instead of rubber?

if i knew where i could get polyurethane, i'd make them myself .

poly motor mounts seem pretty popular and keep the motor from moving a lot better than stock rubber ones. thats my basis anyway...

You think that material would provide enough flexability?

a mount shouldn't need THAT much flexibility, depending on what kind of tolerance you're working with. could always contact the company and see what they think...

Energy Suspension bushings are poly and come in a few different sizes.

vintage parts should still have a few 282 mounts left, but they aren't exactly the cream of the crop.. mine wasn't anyway.

I did something like this for my 284. I burned the rubber out of a stock mount, welded in some frame work to the 2 pieces and filled with polyurathane. The framework purpose was to 'hold' the poly in place rather than rely on its bonding to the walls of the mount. It works great. I also replaced the pin that goes through the mount. After the original rubber let go my car decided to snap that pin.

Bump to top^^^first post updated. Sorry for the long delay. These mounts will finally be in the making!

                              * Also 284 mounts COULD be easily available, we would just need one to take measurements from.
