  • Question : Beefing up a 4t45e

ok ive read the thread that pop up under where im typing the title and 1 of them steamrolled into bullshit within the first few posts and the rest were useless.

im gonna be picking up an uber low mile trans yard says it had 8k on it, so while its gonna be out of the car im wondering what i can do to it so that it will last under the power.

does EP still sell the lsd's. last time i heard he was getting out of the buisness. does anyone have pics of the lsd's he sold for the 4t45 or the parts he used to make it. since they dont give the 4t45 a removable diff cover your forced to take apart the whole thing to do this.

In last heard form Jeff about a month and a half ago, and he was still flogging his stuff.

I don't know about the 4t45e but the three 3t40 LSD's I have bought are GREAT!!

I have a semi-recent phone number somewhere if you need it.

ok cool i wont be diving into until this winter-ish time.

could have sworn i saw it on one of these forums that he was kinda phasing himself out.

ok so i dug up some info the one i found is an 05. but does anyone know exactly what GM did to these things in 03
A 2003 or later transmission will have the latest durability updates to the stock parts from GM, so that would be your best bet as a starting point if you can find a low miles 03-05 4T45E trans. Keep in mind if you change to a GT trans you will need to run a GT program in the pcm because of the different final drive. Anything extra you do above that will depend on your budget and power goals, but they will all help the trans live longer and handle more power.

jeff is currently working on an LSD for me (4t40E) so,hes still at it

only thing i know about changes to the newer trans is,the factory upgraded certain parts in valve body etc, that were prone to premature wear

not much help i know but,if u contact jeff,i am sure he could tell u exactly,he knows his stuff on these trannys

it took Jeff about 8 months, but i finally got mine. i've got about 12K miles on it now and have been thinking i shouldn't have wasted the money. grabbing one of the wheel and spinning it by hand used to be some work-- i could torque my lug nuts to spec with both wheels in the air. now, it's almost like there's just some drag on the brakes. i really doubt if my LSD is doing any good. the 4T45/125/60/65 trannys use the same differential.

i did put a trans spreadsheet on here to look at
i need to revise the pricing though.....alot of stuff has gone down as a matter of fact

and the 4t40 trans does not use the same diff as the 4t60 afaik. i have seen both

That sounds like you should be removing the unit and inspecting it to see what happened.... I have well over 12k on my clutches and its still pretty strong.

They do wear out and you can get a new set of clutches from him if necessary.

well, i wonder how much the Dex VI synthetic had effected the LSD.

it "should" not. he orig said that because he did not know, but i think Mr Pink tried it out and it worked ok. there is no need to use the synthetic though unless you have the clutches that beg for it

I'm running Dextron 6 and I haven't had an issue yet... I think it helps prevent some wear on the EP clutches if they do slip though.

I'll find out this winter... I'm going to go through mine to make sure the diff is all good, and possibly replace or resurface the spiders and clutches... as well as shim the springs a little.
