Hey guys I have a 92 lumina with the 3.1L and the trans needs rebuilt but I don't have the time to let it be down for the time to let me pull it and give it a rebuild. (hard seals) But I do have 2 parts cars a 92 grand prix with the three speed and a 95 but I think it is ecu controlled will either one work?

the three speed might work, i'm sure about the differences between the 4t60 and the th125, but i think the final drive will be wrong.
the 95 has a 4t60e, meaning it needs the PCM to control the shift solenoids, something your stock ECU doesn't do(which is why it is a ECU(engine control unit), not a PCM(powertrain control module)). you could convert it to shift as a manual automatic using microswitches, but thats a pain in the ass if you're just going to swap the tranny again or if you don't like the idea of moving the shifter every time it needs to shift.

If you have the whole parts car then you can probably swap over the computer and perhaps the engine harness with it. Since they are both W-body and the same year I am sure everything will swap over. Even if the final drive is different they are both roughly the same body car, so the trans should behave as it did in the parts car before it became a parts car lol.

From what I am reading the '92 GPs only got a 3.1 or the DOHC 3.4 and i see a listing of a 4t60E for the DOHC only, so I am guessing it is probably a 3.1 like your 92 lumina. Sure it's a pain but swapping out the transmission no matter how u slice it is a major ordeal for a vehicle.
since they are both 92s even the c100 should be the same assuming the same motor.

The 3 speed you'll need the mounting, cables, axles, memcal, and you'll have to rewire the plugs.
the 4 speed, you'll need to rewire the the plugs, get an ECM( but you wont find one that does an 4T60-E on a 3.1 VIN T as they were never combined in that year. You can just only hook the shift and TCC solenoids nothing else, it'll work but probably not as it should.), and passenger side axle.
If you want a '93 4T60-E youll need the passenger side axle, passenger side engine transmission brace, memcal, and you'll need to rewire the plug, but the computer will run it.
You should just get another 4T60.Last edited by gpse3400; 07-14-2009, 06:04 PM.Lorenzo

yeah, you either want to rebuild it, or drive it into the dirt. if you don't have much time, then you certainly won't have the time for a swap. trust me!Andy
