Yep, that's my thought as well.. reinforcing the cups.

I've seen Damon actually shear off the shaft in some Autozone axles, maybe he has pics but that was pretty cool.

I actually found some plate steel in the garage today, I might move forward on reinforcing them this week.

Geoff on Bstuff sheared both axles in half before he had his LSD and that was only with a 3400 5-speed... Only work done to it was porting and valve springs... Nothing engine wise change since then but a little tuning by me, and he put down 188whp and 206wtq IIRC... just a week or so ago.

Heres a gm 5-speed axle on top and a pep boys re-man on the bottom

You can see that the gm axle is about a 1/4th inch thicker, and the inner cv is also much stronger. The pep boys axle inner joint has very thin walls and will break pretty easy.

I have a gm automatic axle in the back yard, I heard that those are thinner also but I could confirm that.

I really think the joints are the weak part though on the GM axles. That shaft is pretty damn beefy.....

          that is a big difference

here are my broken autozone axles..

about a month ago, 6 or 7 runs in, 1-2nd shift, hooisers, polly engine mounts

week and a half ago, 1st run, launch... hoosiers.. solid engine mounts

          both drivers side..

and any1 who has an LSD has to make one of these!!

the autozone axles are 1 1/8'' thick

Please send me the info on what you used to make this!!!!!

I've been searcing all over and I've been lucky these last two times and been abel to get my axles out, but before I had Jeff fix something on my LSD, I couldn't remove an axle without snapping off the C-clip on the end.

thats where i got the end, doesnt come with a slide hammer... i bought a cheapo one from them but i read the thread size wrong or something so it didnt fit. went to napa and got some tube steel, welded the puller end onto it, tossed part of the side hammer on, then a washer and a nut. welded the nut and washer on as a stop.

i bent the clip on the end of the axle, not sure if that could have messed up anything but im not even gonna look lol

the pic explains its self i think

they appear to be identical to the GM axles. there very clean, not any greese on them at all!!! feel about the same weight as the autozone axles

The gm axle shafts still look beefier... But the cv joints on the DSS units look a little better made.

Is there any type of warrenty? Beat the hell out of them and let us know how it works!
