  • It's fallen and it won't get up.

    4T65E 2002.

Transmission was slipping in 1st and 2nd, pretty bad.

Bought a trans for $400 with converter, used, claimed 30k miles on it< same codes PAB.

Spent the day swapping the trannies.
Started it, started to fill it, put in 2 quarts, it still had tranny fluid in it. Checked it, needed more. Added another quart, motor tone changed, total run time so far, is roughly 1.5 minutes. Heard gurgling noises, checked it, needs about a quart more, haven't taken it out of park yet. about 2.5-3 minutes of run time. Start to give it another quart, motor jumps like a miss, once, runs for 3-5 seconds more and stops....hard. hmmm something ain't right.

Crank motor, it fires and stops again.

try to crank again, locked. will not spin.

I have never seen a trans lock up like this before. Put it in neutral and you can push the car, still won't spin in neutral.

Any ideas? Or did I just get a bum trans?
sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

Maybe the pump locked, but the shaft is so small I'd think the engine would break it.If the Drive chain was stopped up then the converter would just stall so maybe the pump is locked. what is the color of the fluid? You cant still push the car in neutral right?

car roles in neutral, np. fluid is perfect, since it's only been in there with less than 5 mins of running.

well, yanked the trans tonight. What a pain in the rear!

I couldn't roll the motor because it's locked at the trans, so I couldn't unbolt it from the flywheel. I figured, no problem, just slip the trans off the converter....

The converter is stuck on the tranny too! So I pulled the 1 bolt I could see, snuck the wrench up to the 2nd converter bolt and snuck that one out, then bent the fly wheel enough to get the trans off the dowl pins and the motor spun with the whole tranny on it so I could get to the 3rd converter bolt.
I put a slide hammer on the converter after I got the trans out, that converter ain't moving! So I'm going to take the drive 100 miles to erie PA and throw this trans at them, hopefully they have another one.

This is probably a bad time to rag on you and all, but WHY in God's Name would you put a used, untested trans in your car?

What would a reputable shop have charged you for a rebuild, cash and carry on your old one.

I just quoted a guy $950 for a complete 3t40 WITH the converter of his choice by the guy who builds my stuff, and I have over 500 runs on mine without a hiccup!

Good luck with it, but that is alot of work and you still don't know what the heck you are getting.

I completely agree! It's a '02 lesabre that was supposed to be traded in today for a STS caddy. I didn't care if it lasted only 50 miles, let the dealer deal with it.

I wouldn't do this to anything I'm keeping or selling to general public, and surely not my drag car! lol I won't mention all the other used gear that's on it.....

                  4. It runs, sorta.

She'll idle, but touch the gas and she dies. I haven't had a chance to look closer at her yet. I think either low fuel pressure or a bad MAP. I ain't complaining for 800 bucks! Paint and interior is cherry!

I apreciate the thought. I own one of these.

Mine is a few years older, they are all Windows CE based, I paid $3500 with the lab scope and DMM option.

I then added the Asian software and plug package at $800
and then the Euro software and plug package at $1200

I bought it in 2004, when I owned a repair shop. I haven't updated it since.
I did full recording, I record every drag pass.

There is an additional option for it...a 5-gas analyzer. Which would be great for tuning, but at $1800....I don't think so.

It also does the SRS systems, ABS, and with an addition option will support OBD2 stock reflashing, that has a monthly subscription charge.

Since I don't own a shop anymore, I just use it for my own and datalogging.
I will be updating the domestic software sometime soon. I do enough sidework to justify needing it.
