  • Getrag 282 rebuild

Ok, i just finished up with my 5 speed conversion in my 96 Z26 and after driving for a while the transmission has started to have a jolt at certain speeds in each gear.

1st or 2nd (not exactly sure which one) it jolts at 15
    3rd jolts at 25
    4th at 35
5th I have not found any jolting problem yet

it only happens under moderate acceleration. The tranny has over 220,000 miles on it. I would like to know if it would make sence to rebuild this one, or go get one at the JY and rebuild that one. The one I have does not have an intermediate drive shaft, and it seems to have some odd gearing as compared to what I've been told it should go to.

1st only goes to about 27
    2nd gets into the 50s
    3rd i think into the 80s
4th just barely gets over 100
5th, well I think it's obvious why I don't know what that tops out at.

I haven't had a chance to check how close my speedo is, but I'll do that today after school and repost.

Also I want to get an LSD and would like to know what would be the best bet for what I should get. Also would just a typical rebuild cover what should be done or should I have any special things done.

I plan on turboing my car next winter, don't know if that changes what I should do but just in case.

    Thanks,
    Jason

What do you mean by a "jolt"? Does it jerk the whole car forward and back when just cruising along? You might wanna check your transmission and motor mounts.

    What vehicle is it in?
The gearing actually sounds about normal, give or take a few mph.

Im just gonna add my question to this thread rather than make a new one. Has anyone ever had a 282 rebuilt? If so, how much you pay? The 282 from my parts car has 200,012 miles on it and sat for 2+ years before I got it, and before I put a high CR 3.1L to it, I want to make sure it will last for a long time
