  • Getrag 284 TGP final results

I know that at least one person wanted to know how my TGP reacted to the getrag 284 since it's geared for a higher revving engine. So, I figured I'd just make a post about it.

First of all I used a stock 284 clutch and so far it's holding up well, and I have about 700 miles on it so far. I just beat on it the first time the other day and I'm happy with the results. I only roll on the throttle from a stop so I don't blow the tires away and 5,500 rpms comes on quick. It brings me to around 4,000 rpms after every shift, and the boost is right back to 11 psi almost as soon as I have the peddle floored(and the BOV sounds sweet ). The gears go by fast, much faster than I would have thought. In fact my friend commented on how fast the gears went by at WOT.

Full boost doesn't come on as quick in 1st & 2nd as it does in 3rd, but that is probably due to the boost ramp tables in the computer. I plan on reworking the boost tables in the future to actually take advantage of why we have a T-2small T-25 in the first place.

Ok, in the last couple days I've noticed that in the morning when I start my car I get a clicking until it runs for a little while. If I push in the clutch pedal at all it goes away. It also goes away after a little bit of driving. I'm thinking that it must be related to the throw-out bearing...can it be bad already. The throw-out bearing only has 1,400 miles on it so far and it seems to work fine. Has this happened to anyone else??

Just put that noise in the "normal" category... I've read about that being normal with the 284, and every 282 I've had has done it (3). It's the input shaft rattling..

That's good to hear that it's "normal" for this tranny. It was starting to piss me off, because I didn't feel like pulling it apart to see what was the problem.

The 284 is noisy, I'm lucky and got one of the louder ones

actually ive looked into this, mine did it too, so i investegated and I believe its the starter, it hits off the flywheel just enought to click a little bit, i noticed it immediatly after changing my starter, so i jacked up the car and fired it up and quickly used the impact gun to take off the starter, pushed it aside and it went away, and when i took the car apart, you could see where it was hitting very lightly, could be because i had the flywheel machined.
