What are the max limits of a stock rebuilt FWD 3 speed?
    Then..
What are the max limits of a rebuild using off the shelf parts of better quality Reds, Borg, BM shift kit etc etc?

stock parts and line pressures...it'd be ok with a stock 3400 for a while. it just shifts too slow. you certainly can change that though. i know they are a tough tranny, but good parts are a challenge to find. that's why i swapped. some Fieros have them behind chevy 350s, if that helps.

That kind of makes it seem respectable. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Eric Brennan still runs his on his 3500 swapped GT... He's pretty happy with it, and got it to shift quite well... Obviously dialing in the shift RPM is a little harder since its hydraulic controls and not electronic.

So pretty much improving pressures in certain areas (or maybe in general) and using some reds for clutches could make the trans a warrior?

I am itching to try another 3 speed out now. Damnit! lol

            Thanks everybody.

the shifts are controlled by spring pressure in the valve body. how it works, i have no idea. finding the correct rpm, that's a trial and error situation.

IIRC fluid pressure and throttle valve adjustment creates the shift timing. Controlling the TV cable is sorta easy, heavier spring and a better pump could be the key element?

the tv cable plays a critical part, but it's the WOT shift control i was referring to.

yeah, that should help... at least then you'll have overdrive too.

I ALMOST would rather swap out a 3t40 than touch a 3x00 for repairs. :lawlz:

Whats with everyone thinking 3x00's are hard to repair?

At least I can remove my PCV valve in under .5 sec and take my rear valve cover off without having to remove my upper plenum.

                              3x00 FTW!
