  • Replacement for 4T40E in Malibu?

I've got a 2003 Chevy Malibu with a 4T40E transmission that's starting to go out. What other transmissions will bolt right up in it's place? Can I use a 4T60 or a 4T65? Will changes need to be made to the PCM if I can get a different transmission?

4T45E, as long as the wiring harness plugs right in. the PCM will need to be tuned. the FDR in a 4T45E is different, but most likely not in your favor for performance. your 4t40E most likely has the 2.4 Ecotech and the FDR is a 3.63. the closet stock FDR in a 4T45E,will be a 3.29 making the 4-banger a real dog.
