  • Question : Swap a 4t60-E for a 4T65-E ???

    Hey Everyone,

    What all is involved in swaping a 91' 4T60-E for a 96' 4T65-E?

    - Is it worth it?
    - what is involved?

    Thanks!

You'll need an ECM to control it, since the 65 is 100% electronically controlled (line pressure too)

If I was to do it, I would do like torq455 did - Do a standalone tranny controller (FAST makes one), that way you have complete control over the tranny and don't have to work about having issues with the OBD2 PCM being only connected to the tranny.

OBDII and a proper ECM that controls the 65-e. By having that though you'd just need one tuner for both the trans and engine.

OBD2 and if you go with a HD version, different axles.

From what I've been told, I'm better sticking with My 4T60-E....

              Any thoughts

the 65E will handle more torque. i've been happy with my set up. after my recent tranny project, it's amazing what it does now! the controller allows control over much more than you knew existed. you most likely will have to fab up a tranny mount, but that may depend on weather the mount bosses on the side cover are the same. they may not be. i was able to use the stock driver axle for the driver side, and found a passenger side axle from a pile of random GM axles. Otherwise, I was going to have to swap the inner tripod. for the money, i'd stick with the 60E. it depends on your budget and if you want to be able to control what and when your tranny does. it was worth it for me!

The 60e is reputed to be stronger in many areas, but the 65E HD seems to have better overall upgrade options. I would probably say 4T65E-HD > 4T60E > 4T65E.
