Question : What other trannies are available

I have a 1983 Camaro w/ the 200C 3-speed transmission and a 2.8l. I was wondering what other trannies bolt up to that block. I've heard that the 60 degree family has the same bellhousing pattern as a 350cid Chevy if so problem solved, if not some help would be fantastic.

i am fairly sure the bellhousing patterns are different, i have been told that the T5 5 speeds that got hooked up to the 3.4s and 3.8s had modified bellhousings to work with the V6. so 3.4 and 3.8 should have the same bellhousing but i don' think it matches the SBC pattern.

i know i didn't even mention the 2.8, but unless i'm wrong, the 2.8 is exactly the same as as 3.1/3.4 when it comes to bellhousing patterns

If you want to stick with the auto, you can go for the 700R4/4L60, just not the 4L60-e becuase you dont have a controller for that.

You can also switch out to a 1983-1992 Camaro V6 T5 and bellhousing from the same years. This is a direct fit into your car with the correct centre council and clutch pedals/master cylinder.

I also have heard that there may be two different 700r4 transmissions, one for the 2.8L and the SB Chevy. If this is at all true, someone please let me know because I have a
700r4 (SB Chevy) at work that I can snag for FREE! Thanks.

I have heard the inner workings of the SBC 700R4 is stronger and can be retrofitted into a 2.8L V6 unit. the 2.8L and onwards use a smaller bolt pattern. Pick it up for parts if its free.

and you can get a adaptor plate made to bolt the sbc trans to the 660 motor !
if you got the trans for free it could be a cheapfix

Great idea on that one. I am not sure that any of the machine shops out where I live would make one, seems like every time I want something done that is a little out in left field they say they cant do it or the typical BS "why on this engine, what kinda car (chuckels)". I hope I am not the only one that gets that, but hell I'll giv'er a try

for the right amount of money, anybody would do it. hell if i had a cnc mill i would make one for you but it will be a while before that will come into my budget.

does the turbo350 have the same bellhousing pattern as a t56? if so, you could hook up a t56 from a lt1 and have a tranny that holds 450lb-ft of torque
