Maybe this link will help. Must have Adobe Acrobat. http://aolsearch.aol.com/aol/redir?s...2Fflowtran.pdf It's either overfilling, which after a lot of leaking it should stop! (Just kidding, but the theory is good. When the tranny reaches it's right level, nevermind, that's stupid) Or an internal problem. That's bad. May not need a pullout though. Get thee hence to a reputable tranny shop. Most of the good ones will diagnose for free. Including fluid pressures. On the site, the tranny is called a 4L60TE. I'm sure the problems remain the same.

4T60-E swap - 711 vs 726?

I called a trans shop, they're said there's definately an internal problem. That, coupled with the HORID smell of the fluid, convinced me that it needs a rebuild or replacement.
I picked up a '92 (same year as the van) Olds Delta 88 Royale with the exact same drivetrain - 3800 & 4T60-E. I was quoted $900Cdn for a rebuild on the trans in the van, if I took it out and dropped it at the trans shop. I picked up the Delta for $300Cdn after test driving it.
Now, here's the current question: There's a number cast into the top of the bellhousing on the transaxles - 726 on the one that was in the van, 711 on the one out of the Delta. The only differences I've found between them are this: The van has both 10/12 gauge wires in the large rectangular connector attached to the shift lever (7 wires in total), but has 1 pin missing from the 10 o'clock position on the round connector on the front (facing front of vehicle) of the transaxle. The 711 only has 1 of the two 10/12 gauge wires going to the larger plug attached to the shift lever (6 wires in total) but has all wires in all positions of the round connector on the front.
These transaxles both have the same final drive ratio (3.06), so I'm wondering if I'm going to be running into a headache here. I've already got the drivetrain out of the Delta and seperated the transaxle from the 3800, got it sitting on the garage floor awaiting installation. The van is in the air, the cradle is out, awaiting the transaxle to be swapped on it before it's reinstalled. So I'm a bit anxious about the whole thing, as I'm sure you can imagine.
Thanks again for any assistance, guys.SCREECH
