  • g6 6 speed manual trans (f40) on a 90 v6-how hard?

how hard would it be to swap a 6 speed manual trans onto a 1990 3.1 v6 in place of a 4 speed auto (besides the pedal/shifter install-i got that & im not concerned about it)? would it bolt up to the engine & would i need a complete ecm tune as well as a mini starter-trans mount-possibly motor mount, & etc?

it would cost less than half that to put in a HM282 5 speed..

shouldnt cost NEAR that much-i can find these tranny's for 3-500-cv shafts shouldnt be more than 100 apiece-125 if i get a light flywheel-the only big things that i need are possibly an ecm tune-a trans mount shifter-cables-& other small stuff.

Would cost more but its a case of "you get what you pay for". If your really interested in doing this PM me and I can help you out because Im 95% done with the swap.

So does anyone here know much about this transmission? I have been considering using it myself but I would like to know how much power they really can handle with a good clutch.

Well think about the 282 is rated for like 150ftlbs of crank tq and yet they put them behind 500+hp v8s. The 6speed is rated for 300 ftlbs of torque. So it should be able to take quite a bit.

why would it be rated for 300 ft/lbs when the 06 gto they put it on has 400 ft/lbs stock? it being rated for 100 ft/lbs less than a stock vehicle that it was installed in cant be right...

Wow, you shouldnt even be working on cars if you think the g6 and the gto share the same transmaxle.

Rear wheel drive vs. front wheel drive cars involved. With a 3.1L I doubt you'll be in any serious danger of overpowering the transmission given the stock engines it sits behind in the Saab turbo cars and G6 plus the vehicle weight associated.
