Slowly but surely things are getting done. Got GM has a revised 3-4 accumulator. The seal looks different, and at the bottom of the housing, there is now a provision to center the springs and keep them there. The valve body is assembled and bolted to the channel plate, and the whole thing will be mounted at some point between this Fri. and Sun. Nobody has a good used wiring harness in town, so I ordered one from Triple Edge Performance. Looks like I'll be held up until Mon., or Wed. That's fine since I still have to mod a set of 99 Grand Am cooling fans to work with the car.

So much for the weekend. My welded crack on the side cover leaked when I filled the cover with water and let it sit. I'm waiting to see where I'll get the money for the replacement. Though, I may get a much higher paying job soon. In which case,I can afford going further into the tranny and tighten things up in there.

Where does it leak on the weld? it may have a hair line crack past where you can see the main crack. You could try welding further past that. or just welding the cast aluminum isn't doing so well.

yeah, there's a hairline crack just past the welded area. i had it re-welded and the crack seem to keep going. i just don't think the two metals like each other.

The crack might go all the way to the edges of the side pan... might as well grab one from a JY or something.

Finally getting the new side cover on Wed. Then I can get this thing back together! The 99 Grand Am cooling fan swap is going great so far. Just have to wiggle the secondary fan in.

WHOO HOO!!! Got er done and running without a hitch!! Haven't road tested yet since we got 5 inches of snow last night. It did just fine shifting up in the air. WHEW! Can't wait to drive it now. The 99 Grand Am cooling fan is a success as well. That was a bitch!! Had to remove two coils, and jack the engine up and down while wiggling the fan in. Frickin tight in there, but it almost looks like it was meant to be. Pretty sweet!

HOLY CRAP!! Got it out on the road and what a difference!! Shifts are quick and precise. The downshifts are almost instanious, even the 3-1!! It almost feels like downshifting a stick shift at WOT without taking your foot off the gas. Floor it, less than a second later, bang! You're off! I just installed a TransGo kit, drilled the seperater plate and added Valvolene Dex VI (full synthetic). WOW!

Here's a pic of the nearly completed cooling fans.

So just the transgo and drilling the separator plate (does it tell you to do this?) was all you did? No extra springs or shims in the accumulator?

I wish my trans was good. It's "chattering" at high RPM at the top of 1st now cause it's slipping/grabbing I think. Still don't know what the constant vibration related to speed is. Something internal I guess.

Sorry to be so late to this party, BUT a 4t60e kit is NOTHING like this one.

                            You get
                            Valve body check balls
A plug and small dia plug for changing spacer plate ports
A plug for the valve body and drill bit to re-route one path
Hard accumulator piston rods, and stronger seals
                            Reverse piston seal
TCC lockup secondary spring and instructions on how to taper the valve
Boost valve modifications (housing and springs)

You get NO springs for the accumulators, NO shims, and such like that...

I think the 4t65e kit is more orientated to making the shifts quicker over the 60e kit.... I purchased a 65e kit one time because I was going to attempt at putting a set of 65e accumulator pistons in my 60e with those new parts, BUT I never obtained the proper accumulators to test that... I figured if I was able to swap that out to the one the 65e has I could drastically improve the shift firmness with that.

Glad to hear you got it back together... and you crazy people who pull side covers while in the car... I have to do more valve body work and have my diff inspected... and trust me my whole trans is coming out to do that. I hate working in tight spots.

Thanks! I hate working in small places, but I had no way to deal with a full tranny removal and still have the engine up in place. If I had your tranny, I'd pull it all the way for a full rebuild too. I really just needed a side cover, but since I was there..... lol. I'm not sure, but I believe the accumulator housings are different between the 60/65.
I go great shift firmness from just increasing line psi, but that was in a stock 97 lumina. I was thinking about installing another shim where the kit didn't have one. All other shift kits have 4 shims, not 3. Maybe see what that does. Oh, I also used the 2-3 spring for the 1-2. It's the single orange spring, and is rather stout.

You should just swap to a 65E anyway. lol I have some experinece and rebuild tips and a manual.
