  • TransGo Shift Kit

Not exactly a 4T60E but really close. Got a TransGo shift kit for my 4T65E. Now that everything is apart, I must say they made changes on all springs. Then added a couple of revised parts as well. In the kit, the springs are stiffer and bigger, there are shims to limit accumulator piston travel, and some revised seals and INT/REV boost valve (metal replaces plastic). I'll get back in the garage tomorrow and take comparison pictures. I had to take the side cover off due to a crack during a few 1/8 mile runs. Now, you know, since I'm there, I should do that and that, and that! This is the first time I've gotten this deep into an auto. Wish me luck! For now, here's some disassembly pictures.

If ya need any info, I have a 97 service manual that has the 4T60E and 4T65E in it. Pictures, specs, and assembly info. It sure was a bwitch to get this far. The engine is just hanging, both sub-frames are out, and had remove the cooling fan to allow the tranny to move forward enough to get the side cover out. If I had more money, I'd just take the tranny out and spiff it up inside.

Looks like a familliar site... One thing to watch out for is that oil pump shaft. Make sure the bearing surface is smooth. It's worth while to change it out as it is one of the major causes of normal failure in these transmissions.

ahh good info. i'll take a look at it. have more pix of the TransGo vs. stock. should make a decent difference. the first pic (left side) is the stock set up, the right side is all TransGo. #2 pic is TransGo vs. stock 1-2 and 2-3 #1 spring. #3 pic is stock 4th accumulator springs (yellow) vs. TransGo. the last pic is of the accumulator housing. the 3 springs and 2 shims on the right side in pic #1 is for 2-3, and the 2 springs 1 shim is for 1-2. what do you think about this pump shaft?

It will be pretty similar. Parts will be a bit different as in some things won't swap over without some work etc but as far as taking apart yeah very similar.

Hmm I guess GM redesigned the shaft becasue it looks alittle differnt. Could I get a pic of the whole shaft and the bearing thats pressed into the valve body?

                    will these work?

#1, valve body, pump attaches to this side. #2, channel plate. that is the bushing directly in front of the converter. #3, pump assembly. the roller bearing you see there rides on the surface sticking out on pic #1. that's what keeps the pump centered. i don't have a full pic of the pump shaft yet. maybe tomorrow. i find it interesting that GM doesn't use a gasket between the pump and valve body. you think i'd be ok to reuse the accumulator gasket? i'm not certain i'll like what TransGo may give me, so i don't want to install my new gasket yet. i've heard others are reusing will success.

Looks like they moved the bearing off the valve body and onto the pump... yeah I would still like to see a full shot of the shaft and ashot of the bearing surface.

                          Here you are Lorenzo...

the first 2 pix are the 2-1 manual servo. can anyone tell me if this filter is a Delco or aftermarket? i have the accumulator back in now, and i decided to break open the old filter to see what the filter caught. so i sit with the pan off waiting for a filter, wiring harness, 3-4 accumulator piston, pin and seal. it is possible i'll have it running by next weekend.

did you look at the pic on post #1? i also discovered that the bushing in the shaft can be moved. i moved it about 1/8 inch so the splines contact more area to help prevent wear.
