what trans. came in a 1988 2.8 celebrity?

  • Question : what trans. came in a 1988 2.8 celebrity?

    i just bought a trans from a 1988 celebrity 2.8 what is it ? i think it's a 4t40 can i hook it up to a 95 camero 3.4 and install it in a 87 fiero?

    I'd like to think they got 440T4 aka 4T60. I know some got the 125c aka 3T40.

      Yeah, the 4T60 is simply a revision of the 440T4. Below is a pic of the 440T4/4T60 pan gasket.

        He got the TH-125C AKA the 3t40.

          oh nooo! haha just kidding. the 125c is a tough tranny. if you built it right it will be nearly bullet proof. though, that pretty much goes with anything.

            Less lbs, less electronics, easier to comprehend = 3 speed ftw!
            Only bad part is, if you plan to go fast you have to choose, highway or 1/4 mile. The 3t40 runs out of gear fast, so you have to build accordingly. Where as the 4 speeds, you can have both combo's........... That's if the 3-4 clutches don't get lazy on you.

              Not so sure about that... my 440 has 3.33 gears and a 3.1, but I run out of juice around 93 mph, while my previous car, a 6000 with an Iron Duke, ran up to 103. It had a 125 and 2.84 gears, but 40 hp less and non-functional lockup.
