Need to rebuild my 4T60e....where do I get parts

    that's how my 4th clutch hub looked after 40K miles. how does the 4th clutch and steels look? any hot spots?

      Not sure, I replace them anytime I take it apart if its factory, but IIRC the 99 that I did for MAJ was a black shell, which COULD have been hardened... normally they are gray, and the ones you buy to replace them are black.

        Was MAJ's worn at all? Also how was his 4th clutch hub splines?

        Also won't AWeb80 want to go with the updated roller sprag?

          Good point... I did tell him to check the 1-2 roller way back in the beginning of this thread... not sure if he ever got a chance.

          AWeb80, I'll get pics of the good vs the bad roller sprag, but I'm assuming you have a 91-94 trans going by the kit you picked out? If so the Roller Sprag can be purchased from Bulkpart as well, http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/4T60Esprag.html part A44654

          This is the updated one with vertical bent accordion springs vs horizontal bent ones, those tend to touch the center race and burn up and die...

          MAJ's trans, I'll try to get the pics I have of it tonight, but I did that so long ago I can't remember, so all I'll have to go by is whats shown in the pics.

              10k miles after a rebuild... This was a new part too....



              I don't have pics of the good vs bad sprag on this PC, BUT, look at your book, Page 54, it says "Component Rebuild 1-2 Roller Clutch Support Changes" Page 55 will show you what your sprag should look like, at the top, its part 683 thats in question. to remove it you just remove the center race by spinning it in the free rolling direction and pulling up, then remove the Circle clip and the cage of bearings should pull out... But I will amost bet once you remove that center race (part 681) your bearings will fall out of the cage.

              On Page 56 it has pics of the springs, its the detail view that says "note position" see how the springs look like an accordion? That shape is the bad ones... Borg Warner corrected this and the springs now go something like this /\/\/ from the side view, that way the bends are at top and bottom and dont risk touching the center race. Bulkpart should send you a Borg Warner unit if you order from them.

              I'll also post those pics tonight of what it should look like.

                are we talking about MAJ with the blue 87? cavalier? that one has the 125 3-spd.

                      It's part of the trans... I don't know how to explain it, but all I do know is when the bearings finally do get jammed in there and they crack the race and it stops having a "hold" direction then third gear doesn't work... I blew mine to fuck on day on the highway... not the one pictured, and I actually split that center race right in half. Had to drive home in 2nd... took a 40 min trip and made it 1 1/2hrs

                        What trans fluid should i use now? i still have the stock valve body, but new everything else. will it matter? i used valvoline maxlife before and it was good

                                I don't think i've ever been this excited after spending $500. LOL
