well, I think my valve body is in good shape. The guy helping me tear it apart and rebuild looked at it and thought it looked good. Couldn't feel anything wrong w/ it.....the pump as well.

did you take the pump apart, and check all of the valves in the VB?

yes, we took the vanes out of the pump and there isn't any abnormal wear on them.

We didn't take teh valve body all he way apart, but we moved the pistons up and down and they moved smoothly

ahh good. pumps usually do well, as long as they don't suck any air or operate continuously at max pressure. it's a good idea to check all the valves, after all, you're there anyway. it's better to be sure at this point.

I haven't received an email back yet from Dave.

I'll just have to order stuff and hope it's right.

Stuff came up and I need the parts by next weekend

I'm just going to leave the valve body alone. It never caused any problems, and the trans-go shift correction kit has a few things in it to replace some valve body items. I understand it doesn't do stuff ot the bore.

I'll be getting the trans go shift kit,

Get the oil tube fix too to prevent that from falling down while youre there. It's cheap. Are you going to shim the accumulators any?

I did last fluid change. So they are good to go.

I know what tube you are talking about, but mine is fine. Is there a known problem w/ them? if so, i'll get a new one anyways....what's the link again?

Just get this, it holds the tube going to the diff in the accumulator housing by linking it to a solid tube that cant slide out.

Also don't you DARE do a rebuid without replacing the reverse drum with a hardened one and a newer stronger updated 4th gear hub... You'll be sorry if you dont.

Both of mine looked like this on a nicely driven 74k mile trans.

IIRC I got those two parts from Bulkpart.com

One is the end of the 4th gear hub, once you pull the 4th clutches off the hub pulls out, and thats the splines on the end of it, the other one is the reverse shell.

I'll see if I have full pics of them.

Following my link its the "4th Clutch Hub & Shaft" for whatever year trans you have, 96+ changed... And then the "Shell, Reverse Reaction"

Best pic I could find right now

Oh. Ok. Thanks. I know now. what's the reason for getting a new one? do they fail often?

Both new items are hardened, factory shells are not hardened, and the splines on the 4th hub are also not hardened from factory... Just look at the pics of the parts I posted, the splines are just about gone and there are huge digs on the inside of the shell... More time with those close to failures then the trans would blow to hell... so yes those factory parts are known to fail.

Your in that far so if your parts are showing similar wear then I strongly recommend replacing them.

Jon, did GM ever go to hardened on those parts and if so what year?
