  • XTR Clutch Kit Review?

Has anybody ordered and used one of these Ebay cheapy clutches? I have read mixed reviews on the web.

For $179 stage 3 I am really tempted......

I do have an fx400 clutchmaster clutch with a fidanza lightened flywheel, but I would like to wait to use that clutch until farther down the road and was hoping this clutch would get me through a year or so, maybe less, i would hate to beat on my nice clutch right away and can't see dropping another $400 for a stage 2 clutch.......

oh and to start, this clutch would be mated to a stock 3400 for a couple months, then my boosted motor, and eventually the boosted motor with full boost, the when it grenades use the nice clutch.....

    S...........L...........E...........E...........P...........E...........R

IIRC there are a couple J bod 660 folks using that clutch with GREAT results. I would hop on the bandwagon if it up to me. Get it now while it's inexpensive!

I am almost positive that the XTR is the same as the EZ clutch which are both made by Clutchnet.com.

I have the stage III EZ clutch, 6 puc sprung and it holds all the power I put down, and I wouldn't be surprised if it held to take my 2900 pound car into the 11's.

So, I say give it a shot.

Drill out your clutch line fittings, and you'll be happy with it.

Also, if you plan on a high revving engine (6500 +) I'd get something un-sprung in maybe a 4 puc direct from clutch net... just so it's lighter and allows for quicker shifts at high RPM.

I have it in my 3500 5-speed beretta. The car runs well, but i dont drive it yet.

But it does clear the bellhousing fine. The pedal feels good, but a little snappy. Well see.

Also, the disk is made by clutchnet and the PP is by grip force. BTW

Haha yeah I guess. I found alot of things out the hard way and the costly way.

Like when I pulled a 282 out of a 94 cavalier in january(very cold!). Then I found that it wouldnt work in 92+ berettas after I bought it, took it apart, and almost ordered parts for it.

But mistakes are how you learn, so I try to post every time I screw up so people dont make my mistakes

It didnt work because theres 2 different casings for the hm282/NVG, one has bosses for the 92+ mounts.

It is irrelevent for cars using the bellhousing to mount though, like the cavis, pre 92 berettas, etc...

I have the XTR Stage 3 in my car right now and it is questionable. It has no problems off the line but from a roll wot 3rd to 4th it instantly redlines in 4th... no grip what-so-ever. I dont drive the car that often right now because its cold but when i had it out i didnt know it was going to cook 4th, found out roll racing my buddys car, has me stumped because it grips first to 4th fine from a dig. I was reading the XTR stage 3 is rated for 299whp? Id put my setup around the 330-340 mark right now and was contemplating getting a spec stage 4 solid hub 4 puck.. What also stumps me is the fact that Mars uses this clutch and has no problems... his car is also 500 lbs lighter and im not sure if he roll races or not. Is there any way the slipping in 4th is a slave problem or do these clutches just not like quick wot shifts?? Will the spec allow me to drag and roll race?? sorry for the rant, just trying to get any suggestions or advice possible, Thanks a lot.

i've had the EZ stage 3 for about 4 years, after at least 100 passes launching on slicks, most of those with a welded diff and a 300+ HP engine it's still holding up well. There are hot spots on the pressure plate and some of the clutch material is of course worn off but i'd guess it would be good for another year or 2 of abuse.

It's going back in the car with a mild 3400 for the new owner, with daily driving it should last for quite a while.

I'll agree to that one. GM should have made every car RWD, just like back in the day, lol.

My snow tires made a world of difference in the snow with my truck. Also my wife's old T-bird was fine with about 200 lbs of kitty litter in the trunk. You just had to remember you were driving a RWD v8 when you took off and cornered and you were just fine. In reality my main gripe is GM doesn't make enough RWD cars. It's sad how the last 2 decades has been overrun by FWD... Not enough choices for the enthusiast...
