  • transmission replacement

    Hi everybody, its me again...

    a while back i did a 3100 --> 34000 engine swap.... on my 1995 buick skylark...

It is doin great... the transmission... not so well..

I have replaced the fluid and filter, at well past 100,000 miles, i know my bad, cause it was having major slipping issues..

THat worked for a while.. now it is completely dead.. no gears at all no r, drive, 1st and 2nd.. Nutttin.. no clunk no nutthing...

so i am looking to replace it..

i have one that i can get.. but am wondering how the heck to replace it.. does anyone have a good idea of how to do this???

I know this is off of the "V6 60 degee" subject... but you have all helped sooo much before...

    Let me know.. Thanks

First Buy a engine holder that holds the engine in the car while you remove the subframe.. It has 4 contact points 2 on each side of the strut towers and 2 on the core support.. Get the car in the air use large jackstands get the bumpers about as high as your knee or higher.. Brake loose the ball joints get them out of the socket, tie up the tie rods from the tie rod to the spring with wire, remove cv nut and take cv's out.. Undo the trans cooler lines from trans and move aside,, take out starter and undo flywheel bolts, push flywheel into trans to clear torque converter wehen removing, remove electronic connections, remove 2 bolts that hold the rack on the subframe, undo all nuts that hold the engine mounts and trans mounts.. by now all that is attached to the subframe is nothing.. take out the 4 bolts that hold the subfame on and take that out.. then the engine and trans are hanging there.. get a jack and put under the trans.. 5 bolts go into the motor and easy to get to and remove but 1 goes into the trans and you need alot of extensions and get it from the passenger side.. Once all the bolts aare loose pop the trans off the pins and take down.. remove the trans from the jack and slide out from under the car.. installing it is just going backwards from removing.. Any questions just ask.. hope that helps..

Make sure you do not let the rack fall thats y wire holds it up on both tierods ..
I did it on the floor 2 times and in the air on a lift 2 times so its cake for me..

You can also pull it out the top if you aren't feeling to remove the frame. the engine will have to come out first though.

The car WILL be out of alignment after this. Dont forget to line the car back up as the frame WILL not be where you had it bolted prior.

well there hasn't been much of an update from me..

trans is out .. dropped like a lead balloon. pretty cool actaully

the new one is sitting .. and waiting for me.. to do something.. i am doing this outside and it has been raining ALOT.. so no time for me to do it.. plus i have not had time to get the flush and filter kit.. so i can do that before i reinstall...

                          Thanks for your help alll..

you're braver than I am. I never want to pull a trans from the bottom unless I have a lift, supports, and a good transmission jack.

Make sure you clean out the trans cooler before you hook it up to the new trans. Because it might be full of junk.
