What would i have to do to swap a 4t65e in for my '89 4t60? I dont want to get rid of my 7730 ecm , can i rig up an obd2 computer and get chipped to only read rpm and shift points? Customize the obd2 harness to only run the TCM and use minimal wiring? the 4t65e is an 01. If anyone has any idea how to do this , dont be shy... thank you

You'd need to be able to control the line pressure since it's pulse width modulated. The axles may be bigger too. You can wire switches for the solenoids so you can control the shifts. The electrical plug will be in a different location and won't work with your set up. You might be able to rig that computer to read rpm for shifts, but you won't like it. Shift points usually go off of rpm, mph, tps, and map/maf sensors. If you just set the tranny to read rpm, you can only tell it to shift at one rpm weather you are at 5% tps or 100% tps and it won't shift until it reaches that rpm.Andy

there are, but you can't swap cases. there are some external changes. now, you can do what i did and put the 65Ein and use the COMP transmission controller. it's a stand alone computer that controls the tranny. really, you can build the 4t60 (89, isn't that a 440T4?) fairly tough. don't forget, you'd more than likely will have to swap your axle splines around too. the newer outer CV splines are bigger.Andy

it will bolt up, hell, the 65E did on my 3.1! the axles depend on what year tranny, vehicle and if it's a base, GT, SS etc. but you have the idea. what you want is very doable, it's a matter of how far you want to go and how much $$.Andy

well, there isn't really upgrades for GM trannys except from GM and that's CHA-CHING!!! I could have change the FDR to 4.10 without touching any chain sprockets or gears for only $1300. this is a good read: http://60degreev6.com/content/4T60E_FDR_Discussion
there are a couple of guys that make a true LSD or something like it. Engineered Performance so far seems to be a good LSD , but when my tranny gets heat soaked (180-195 degrees) the LSD doesn't seem to do much, but when it's cold, man that thing is stiff! i can torque my wheels with both front tires off the ground! lol there has been an issue with getting the work done there. I waited 6 months for my LSD, others have waited a year. there is a transgo shift kit too. i had a 97 lumina 4T60E. I just added a cooler and an adjustable vacuum modulator to adjust line pressure. that firmed the shifts plenty without maxing out the pump. there's a couple other places, but i can't think of them right now. i have the 3.73 final drive instructions if you'd like them.Andy
