  • Is there a FWD 5 or 6 spd manual?

Has there ever been produced a FWD manual transmission that bolts up to this engine? Stock GM or aftermarket??

If so, how wold I find said tranny??

Theres a quite a few 5speed that will bolt up. The 2 popular ones are the getrag 282/284. I believe the new cobalt 5speeds will bolt up as well. The 6speed manual from a g6 will also bolt up. I am currently swapping the 6speed in.

how far have you gotten into that swap? I planned on doing a 3400 swap and some sort of forced induction(probably a vortec-style supercharger) and my 4t60e will liquify itself under that kind of torque. I've only done minor bolt-on stuff to my car and i've had to rebuild it twice. I'm tired of the auto man. Plus if I get rid of the auto I can remove the egr system since it doesnt need to read the engine load off of it to operate.

I thought the getrag trannies were built for the 90degreee 3800 from the GPs? Will they bolt up to the 60degree 3x00 bell housing?

DOHC, how did you do the OBDII swap? Have you seen good benefits from switching to the OBDII? I have a 94 GrandAM GT wich I believe is the better looking sister car to your lumina. You basically have everything Ive been looking to do over the next few months, however I am going to wait to do a turbo setup. I am going to swap the3100out for 3400 in i think, and I am considering the getrag282 or the 6spd.

BTW I live in orlando, not far from you at all. OBD II swap was a bitch but well worth it.

no 3800 ever got a manual trans... The 6speed swap is somewhat easy. You do have to hack into the unibody a little but after that its pretty easy. And obviously the mounts have to be custom made.

                dohc do you have aim?

Whats the rating for a 282? Maybe I can get a sunfire with a 282 and rebuild the tranny to handle 400hp?

People say the 282's are good for 400 hp. However, theres really no way to prove that.

Curtis was well over 400hp in his Z24 and he mainly just broke axles - stock and custom aftermarket. So I say that proves they are reliable above 400hp.

There are several different codes for the 6spds, but one I remember off the top of my head is MT2.
