  • Question : 4T60-E Trans Cooler Supply

Does anyone know which line is the supply for the factory trans cooler?? I am adding a external cooler to the factory and i am going to use the factory one first then the external one then back to the trans.. Im not sure which one is the supply though.. The top or bottom line on the radiator??
    Thanks

not positive here, but i tend to think that gm would want to eliminate all air in the cooler lines. since air rises it's only logical to have the bottom line supply fluid forcing the air up and out of the cooler.

I think its top to bottom not sure... BUT coming out of the trans the vertical fitting is the supply the horizontal fitting is the return... trace them back from there.

Yep That was the one! i added the aftermarket cooler with the factory one and the fluid is way cooler then before!!! There is a noticable difference when you touch the inlet and outlet of the lines... Definatly the way to go if you want to perserve the life of your trans...

I've had two 3100/4T60E's that would not drop into Overdrive on the highway, sporadically. After adding the external coolers, they both drop into OD everytime.
One I have going to the external cooler first and the other I have the lines routed to the radiator's cooler first. I see no discernable difference in the shifting.
I bought a new transcooler off Ebay that doesn't flow when cold. That makes sense. It has stackable plates. The other cooler I pulled off of a 93 Pull-A-Part Regal. Same design and much cheaper.
