      If you had a 284 rebuilt, it would have cost you 3600 bucks with core charge cause you gotta send it in. 284 is 91-93 3.4 DOHC only.

        i havnt done anything major to the car like that the guy who had it before me

        ill take a picture later tonight just to see if i can tellif i remember right it doesnt look like my 282's did

          i just rode in a 1991 STE w 3.4 dohc 284 getrag and 70 mph hits around 2500 rpm.

            So about this talk about 282s and 284s what is better? Sounds like the 282 that was swapped into my retta needs to be replaced, just wanna know which is better. Was thinking 282 out of a quad 4 retta for the lower gear ratios then swap bell housing?

              Look on the plate on the bottom of the tranny, if it is a 284, it will look like this:



              Notice under where it says "Getrag Gears of North America" the number starts off with 284. I'll give you one guess why it starts with 284 :P The one in my 92 is original to the car and has not been rebuilt. Ben had one that had been rebuilt that had a tag specifying somewhere about being rebuilt.

                        Well, yeah your's is custom :P

                        Yeah the 4 banger ones are not the good getrag. Allthough I think some late model 2200s had some newer getrag.
