It's always been alitttle wet under the transmission, but the level has always been normal and never seemed to drop but now I can't keep the fluid in it. I used to just dismiss it as the engine was leaking, which it was. I just took it to the track so I think I aggravated whatever was wrong. The clutch is dry and is working properly.Nothing out of the vent. Axles seem dry, and I'd liek to think my drain plug is not leaking. the transmission is wet all up the back side of it above the intermeidate shaft. I'm thinking the speed sensor. Anyone with any other ideas??? I also thought that maybe the case is craked but I think I would hear that and with the amount of fluid leaking, I'd see a trail of fluid and smoke off the exhaust which i dont see..

I think it has to be the speed sensor.......anyway you could put some of that dye that shows up under a black light in the trans fluid?

Well I've replaced the axle seals and the speed sensor, transmission is still leaking.. all I got left in the input shaft, the intemiedate shaft and the case itself. I put in some stop leak...Naturally I dont beleive it will do much of anything. the clutch seems fine and the bellhousing appears to be dry, yet I am getting fluid behind the starter, and on the front frame rail.the fuild has to be getting tossed.......but from where???Lorenzo

does the 284 have an external slave like the older 282's?
if so then it could be squirting clutch fluid into the bellhousing...
or the detent cover could be leaking. Either way, drain that fluid out of there right away, you don't want anything besides Syncromesh in that tranny.

yeah I had a hole burning in my pocket for stop leak. FYI it did nada....where is the detent cover?
Slave is external.
to summarize, it is wet under the differential, intermediate shaft(differential side), back side of starter and flywheel cover . The drops of fliud will collect at the very bottom of the differential. Clutch seems dry.Lorenzo

look at the input shaft, slightly above that and to the left is the detent cover on a HM282
Are you sure the rear main seal on the engine isn't leaking? I had that happen with my old 3.1.. eventually the clutch got contaminated and slipped all the time but there was oil everywhere down there.. Pretty common thing for our engines..
Some pics of yours might be helpfull...

Its the transmission leaking as i've been checking the transmission dipstick. I think the throwout bearing has been compromised, every so often I will hear a loud grating metal on metal screech when I let off the clutch.Lorenzo
