  • 4t60E changes ?'s

ok, i need to know if there are any changes in the tranny from 1996 to 1998-1999?

i have a 1996 that i need to get a new tranny for and build up. a local place i can get them from says the 1996 is not the same as a 1998 and that they will not guarantee it. the new tranny will be coming out of the same style car, i.e. monte carlo.

    they want $700 for a 1996 w/ 90k on it, and only$150 for a 1998 w/ 15k on it

if there are differences, what are they? wiring? sensors? i am almost 100% sure if there are any changes, thats what it would be.

any help would be great, thanks!

I remember that there were like 6-7 different versions of the 4T60E in just 94 alone, so I'm sure that there are some differences between the 2 you are looking at.

I think that what motor the tranny was connected to also makes a difference. IE: 3.4 DOHC, 3100, 3800, etc. Can you find out that information?

that doesn't tell u wiring, but that trans the 1998 has a 3.29 final drive and bolts up the same and evrything. so it should work. i say use your internal trans harness

would the 3.29 cause any problems with the spedo or rpm gauge accuracy?

and like i said before, i am tranny stupid

a tranny has an internal wiring harness? so if i use 96's sensors and stuff, and wiring, then the only thing different will be the ratio right? what about the differential? i am going to have that diff turned into an LSD by Intense, would that be any different than using the 96's?

no as long as u use the sun gear from the differential u pick it will not matter. u will not notice a differnce between the to diffs. are u getting the trans rebuilt u could go with a 33/37 ratio chain to get a 3.73 final drive. it really wakes up the 3100/3400 u putting a stall in that trans? i can hook u up with one. if your interested pm me

If I can get more of those specs, I'd be happy to add them. I plan on putting this up on the site as soon as I get it all worked out (even if I don't have a complete listing).

i will get u some more specs and the chart on how to read the model number, all i can remeber right now is that the first digit is the year so 6=96 and 8=98

Yeah... I wasn't too concerned on how to read the chart. Most people will find a tranny, look at the tag and then look at the chart. If it suits what they want, then they are happy.
