  • Overdrive/Lock up converter don't work when hot

    Hello,

I have a 4t60e in my 95 Olds van. The trans will shift fine when cold, but kicks out of OD and Lockup when it warms up (about 8-10 minutes of driving). Sometimes it sets a trouble code, sometimes it does not. How does one retrieve a trouble code on this OBD I vehicle??? Can you jumper pins to get the light to flash??

Does my trans problem sound like a faulty solenoid?? Difficult fix??

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

well I know the PWM soleniod is a problem and basically just diconnecting itshould fix your TCC problem. 4th gear lost is kinda strange, if you have all other gears then its not a soleniod problem...You will need a scan tool with trans code capabilty to pull the code.

If it with the PWM, how do I disconnect it. I've done my share of research and equally conclude that is a "luxury/creature comfort" item. Is it the black wire on the main trans. wiring harness? If so, should I disconnect it here or at the ECU/PCM (I've heard it called both).

I did find out that I have a bad check valve and am going to see if that fixes anything.

      THanks for the Help!!!!

its just a matter of cutting the wire or removing it fromt the connector. Honestly I dont know the color of the wire and my books are packed away right now.....

The black wire appears to run the PWM solenoid, or pin C if its marked.

I disconnected the wire, but it still pulls out of OD and Lockup after the vehicle warms up. The check valve made the van idle alot better but no help on the transmission. Does someone have a pic of the trans. with the side cover removed?? I believe my problem lies with a temp sensor in the tranny and don't know where it is located.
IF someone has a pic of the tranny with the side cover removed, can you make a note of which solenoids are which??
            Thanks a Million!!!

I had a similar problem with a '95 Lumina I had briefly a few years ago. When it got warm I lost first and fourth. Do you still have first gear? If not, the tranny is probably hosed.

Yeah, I still have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The vehicle has only 113,xxx miles on it so it should have PLENTY of life left in it.
No OD/Lockup with these gas prices is hitting the wallet BIG TIME
