You can also buy the kit from V8 Archie but it'll cost you.

Look just below the pictures to the right and you'll see what the master kit costs. I think he resently offered an economy kit since there are so many 6 spds on the market for much cheaper than when it initially came available two years ago.

Sorry about that, you'll actually have to search products for tranny swaps since his site has internal links within the main page so that you are directed to the home page on his link no matter where you are on the screen. In the event it is against the rules to post a link the economy kit is

          Rear Transmission Mount
6 Speed Shift Cable Mounting Brackets
          Clutch Line Adapter

The price for the Economy 6 Speed Conversion Kit is $1724.00

Turns out he is friends with Archie, so he called him. He was quoted $3700 for eveything he needed without the tranny. Since it is already a V8 swap, and trans, he was getting a "discount".

I have been reading your thread, now that the axels have been made, is that something we can order from the same place?

We are going to go ahead and pull the motor for the Patriot heads, dual quad mani, roller cam conversion, and a couple of cosmetics. He's haveing me port the manifold to match the heads and the F40 swap is on hold until we can gather the parts/knowledge.

He would like to know if you could put a list together, and maybe some parts numbers? That should be a sticky somewhere He is totally computer illiterate, and would have to print out the pages, or sit there and read them with him to turn the pages, lol.

Like I say, he has some good contacts, but he doesn't like calling them so much for questions if he's not buying their products (Clem "Fiero" Flannagan & V8 Archie).

I did show him your thread, and he recognized some of the cars by the signatures and avitars

Nevermind for now. Pennock's has a "printable version", 84 pages, but it will give him something to chew on for the next few days.

$3700 is still a pretty good chunk of change considering the tranny can be had for $300 now. I'm redoing my shifter tomorrow for proper shifting since I replaced a cable with one from the 5 speed and threw the initial setup I had off. Since you have access to a machine shop you should be able to do the swap for much less than $3700.

Shift cables cost me $140 for the pair, he can use one of his existing
I have about $1000 including the cost of the tranny tied up in the swap and the tranny cost half of that, so if you make your own mounts you can save a lot of unnecessary costs.

The four speed shifter is what's needed for the best shift match up. I'll post the modifications I make which will maintain the original shift travel backward and forward and show the slot modification for more left-right selector travel for the extra gate.

The biggest challenge for him will be the Flywheel since there is no option other than custom. He can pick up a Saab 9-3, Cobalt SS or Saturn Redline intermediate shaft and make a plate to adapt it to the engine, the shaft will run as low as $25 and the axles from the Cobalt or Saturn around $50 each and they plug right into the Fiero hubs. Whether or not he'll need to have custom axle shafts made ~$299 at Moser depends on where the tranny sits in the car. If the Fiero tranny is in its stock location on the cradle he may be able to use the stock Cobalt or Saturn axles directly if he shifts the engine assembly to the right 1" which will center the output seals of the F40 relative to where the stock tranny would sit.

Of course I'm speaking of used parts, and the axles must be from the Supercharged Cobalt and SS or they will not match the tranny spline pattern.

Right now the engine sits about 1" more to the pass side than stock because of the metric to v8 plate for the bell housing.

I know he has a 4spd lever because I glass beaded it for him the day before the f40 cam in.

Yes, he paid $300 and $100 in shipping.

Printed out the entire 84 pages for him, lol.

What was your flywheel source? I think he's using a SBC flywheel with a custom adapter for the starter that he made.

So it looks like other than the $300 axles, we should be able to handle the rest. Mounts are no problem.

I'm using the stock G6 flywheel, it's heavy but there is an advantage to it on launching. I also discovered today why I was only able to generate about 3 psi boost on the brief test drive during the last visit home, there is a breather tube fitting on the Northstar throttle body probably for a PCV valve connection that I did not realize I had left uncorked, it flows quite a bit of air. It's probably a good thing because the engine leaned out and backfired and I'd hate for it to have been any higher than 3 psi under those circumstances.

You'll definately be needing a custom axle for the passenger side, the good thing is if you start with a stock axle you can just send it off and have it resplined for an even greater savings than the cost of new axles.

Seeing he just spent $1200 on the heads, he's not short on cash, but doesn't want to waste it on something he can do himself. I can't imagine he will mind spending $300 on new axles rather than trying to modify used ones.

Guess we are going to have to do a mock up at least while we have the cradle out, to get a better view on things.
