  • SPEC Clutches??

I just ordered a new clutch for my 1991 GTP it has the Getrag 284 in it, anyways i got it from http://www.specclutch.com its a Stage 3+ cost me $850 US. has anyone ever purchased one of these clutches? if so how is it? i got this because of my turbo project and im sure a stock clutch wont hold up to it. anyways if anyone has tried it then let me hear it.

from what I know they will chatter and be very abrupt...They will smooth out with age and use. very agressive friction material

      $850 for a clutch?!?

i got a stage 3 clutch, 2x pressure plate and an aluminum flywheel for the same price.

www.clutchnet.com these guys make good clutches and pressure plates. as you know any neutrally balanced 282 flywheel will work. i believe i bought mine form the fiero store.

well apparently the stage 3+ is way better than the stage 3 , not as harsh as engagement, and full disc, made from carbon metallic , also can handle up to 850hp. so i guess it better be good, lol . plus a stock clutch around here cost about the same so i figured i had nothing to loose.

WOW. i just got a clutchmaster stage 3 for $540, i thought that was expencive.

i had a stage 2 spec clutch, i will never buy one again. it lasted maby 3k (it riped apart literally). and after a few runs it liked to slip. it was also a pain to drive (also had a fidanza flywheel)

i know there has been a lot of people that run them and love them

http://www.ultrarev.com/home.php?cat=326 they seem to have better prices on spec clutches

I have a Spec stage 3, with my 282/turbo 3.1, though I haven't put many miles on it yet and I'm still getting used to driving a stick. I think it's 6 pucks, I don't remember. I find it's pretty much an on/off switch, and it results in quite a bit of chatter.. but as I get used to it and break it in hopefully it will get better. I think I paid $350

His is more expensive because he has a Getrag 284. It uses a different pressure plate and throwout bearing. It's pull-style..

I had a Spec Stage 2 and it was a wonderful clutch. I have a Spec Stage 3 now because I plan on making more power. It chattered for the first 500 miles but once broken in it stopped chattering. It engages very smoothly.
