Thanks

The input shaft shouldn't bind on anything. Sounds like you forgot some steps..
Did you remove the detent cover and assembly?
Don't forget the bushing on one of the shift shafts (I think it's on the reverse shaft? I forget..). You can walk it out with some allen keys or small prybars. It seems ridiculous, but you seriously can't get the cases apart without removing it.

i would say remove the detent cover, inside there are some steel balls and springs the need to be removed. (that was my hang-up too) WARNING, try very hard not to damage the detent cover, since it is a discontinued part from gm.
for the cover i just knock out the center hole and pry it out with whatever i can find... then flatten it back out and use that aluminium ducting tape over both sides of the hole (with the cover cleaned very well). It seems to hold up very well.
Well guys, I let the bushing soak in wd 40 while I was at school today. Came home, and walked it right out.
The cases came apart easily. I cant beleive that bushing was holding me up so bad.
Everything looks fantastic internally, however, it needs diff bearings, and im going to do seals all the way around. The diff bearings are still tight, but the race is pitted. So now I need to get bearings. I guess ill start at the dealer.
Does anyone have any part #'s?
Thanks

I think the races are 7455633 and the bearings are 7455634. Well, those are for the 282, but they should be the same. They're not on GMPD or VPI however. Part numbers could have been superceded, those were '87 numbers.

Make sure you check and set the preload one way or another. You are shooting for 3 thousandths preload. Too much or too little and you'll be taking that thing apart again in a few months.
