This is the way I have always understood it to be....

The 4T60E is electronically controlled, the 4T60 was not. That is what the E stands for.
The 4T60E's were used starting in 1988, so to answer your question, yes, the 4T60E was controlled by an OBD1 computer as they used OBD1 up until 1993.
The only transmissions that were not electronically controlled did not have the E on the end of the name, they were instead vacuum controlled.

The 4T60E is still vacuumed controlled, although it does have some electronics inside it.

              Isn't the 4T60 the same thing as a 440T-4?

I just delivered one to Jersey that came off of an '88 Buick park ave.

Yes, the 4T60 is the same as a 440T-4.

To correct my above statement, line pressure is still vacuum controlled, although shift points are controlled by the ECM. So it really depends on what you mean by "electronic shift".

Bolts up to the motor yes, but mounts and axles don't know if that works for your application.

Might be as simple as swapping your axles and mount over to it. But without ever seeing one I don't know for sure.

4t60 was the updated name for the 440t4, but no significant changes to the tranny itself. this name stated in 88. the 4t60e first came into use in 1991 only behind the 3.4l tdc, then by 93 was phased into everything.

the 4t60e pressure is controlled with the vacume modulator, however it has 2 shift solonoids, a lockup solonoid and in later years a lockup pwm solonoid. even though pressure its vacume controlled, shifting and lockup is controlled electronicly by the pcm.

Passegner side axels are different. Mounting is same except on the passenger side.
