you really need to fix that 2-3 shift. should be firm, but that's ridiculous!!

Hey Jon can you get those pics working again in this thread?
Also, what Buick did you say to look for to get for a swap to L body? What FDR did those have usually?
And is a broken accumulator spring the cause of bouncing off the rev limiter?
Thanks!sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

a broken accumulator spring will cause the clutch to slip during the shift, then thud, it engages, eventually burning the clutches. it's similar to a worn out slipping tranny, but it a quicker event. buick usually isn't the ideal choice for a FDR unless you are looking for a low rpm highway cruiser. mine was the famous 2.86 FDR.Andy

Depends on the year, the 98's and 99's in a buick century were not 2.86's they were 3.29's a good swap for a OBDI.5 vehicle since shifts are by RPM, it will mess up a OBDII unless you can tune since shifts are by MPH and RPM, and there is a drive ratio setting in there that will throw a code.
Sorry for the delay... I haven't checked all the threads on this board much.
Also Torq is right about the spring. Maj's tranny had a broken one and that was causing his delayed 1-2 shift.Last edited by 3400-95-Modified; 05-03-2009, 09:31 AM.

i have a 99 and it has the 2.86. it came out of a Buick LeSabre 3800. the code on the tranny says the year is 9, and model is YFB. i said Buick since mine came out of one and forgot about the other models.Andy

The century appears to only have come with the 3100, which W body cars with the 3100 had higher FDR usually. The 3800 cars had the low FDRs since the 3800 has a lot of torque.
Is it just 98-99 centurys with the 3.29 or did the older of that same body style still have good FDR since they all at 3100s?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

not sure about that one. actually, the 3800's had the higher ratios. the higher and lower are backwards to logical thinking.Andy

Just about anything with a 3100 or 3400 came with the higher 3.29's and such especially 98-99, BUT only if in larger vehicles... since when they put the 3100 in ours they did a 2.92 ratio.
Just get me the tags I'll tell you what it is, and I'm sure someone else on here has a book too.

torq455 a 3.33 FDRatio is higher than a 2.93 FDRatio... But if you are talking in terms of gearing, the 3.33 FDR is a lower geared trans than a 2.92 FDR...
Jon, do you think you could scan/photo the table and post up the image? When I go to get the trans it's about 78miles away and it would be nice to have. Unless the list under the trans section articles is all inclusive?? Does the Century have the structural side pan or does that have to be swapped?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)
