        woo hoo

3400-95-Modified, I found my accum tag thing on my tranny.

I have the 4AFW....like we talked about on page 6

what springs do I need to order?...and which design of accum pump do i have ....1 or 2?

you have the 2nd design accumulators, so new springs for you would be...

          1-2 outer, 8682700
          1-2 inner, 8668631
          2-3 outer, 8668487
          2-3 inner, 8681456

Now how you shim the 1-2, I'm not sure on because your piston is in upside down in comparison to mine, Now you could find a washer that fits on the bottom of the piston where the spring rides and just shim it that way, I dont see why that wouldnt work, or you could put them on the cover where the spring hits... I posted the pictures of how they go together somewhere on here I thought.

On that chart your assy is figure 163

so, on the 1-2 springs, should I shim it w/ #1 or #2 on the pic I attatched?

where does the little spring sit on #2 in the pic?....it looks like there is only room for the big spring there....

and on the 2-3 springs, should i shim on the piston/spring side, or the piston/cover side?

I wish i knew all the dimmensions of stuff here....cause then I could machine my shims at work to exact specs on a lathe....and not have to run to a parts store in hopes.

maybe i'll raid a j/y and tear one apart and take measurements then.....time is not something i have much of for that though.

Put the shims in the #2 location and for 2-3 you would put them in the #1 location you pictured on the 1-2 accumulator, basically you want to shim on the spring side, top OR bottom of the spring, doesnt matter just depends on which makes it easier and yes they need to have holes in the middle for the center pin to go through no matter what.

do you have any extra accum housings from a 4AFW 60-e laying around?

I want to get one and make measurements for the spacers before I tear mine apart.

What do you want to know? Housings are all the same... it just the pistons that differ and the way they are put together... I can get you measurements of the bores if thats what you need... I think I have at least two housings around here somewhere.

                      • Yes, I Need Height And Diam Measurements Of The Housings And Pistons. To Ensure A Snug And Proper Fit. I Am Going To Machine The Shim Beforehand Unless There Are Washers I Can Stack That Fit The Size I Need. .

                        • I cant get your upside down 1-2 piston size since I dont have one of those, but I'll measure as much as I can as far as the rest of the housing sizes go, the 2-3 piston may have the same bore on the bottom of it as the 1-2 does on the top so I'll give you those numbers too.

                            • alright, just picked up a 4AFW accum housing yesterday...I'll be getting measurements and making spacers as needed.

What is the easiest way to pull the metal lines out of the housing?.......I had to break them yesteday to get the j/y one out.

                              • well, it looks as if these two are the only ones I can order.

                                1-2 inner, 8668631
                                2-3 outer, 8668487

.....the other two are discontinuted...(tried both dealers in town.)

the springs in the j/y accum housing are fine...so if need be, i've got some spares in case mine break.

how do I get those hose lines out of the accum housing w/o breaking them?

is there some trick?...the ones on the j/y housing i had to twist off.
