Accumulator housing, 4 bolts that are missing are the ones you need to take off and this part will fall into your hands.
Cover off what you will see.
Now push the pistons in CAREFULLY with the top aimed at a drain pan, fluid will get pushed out, once you can grab the center pin and pull up on it, then you can rock the pin to one side so it will free up the piston from the bore. The washers basically go at the bottom of these bores below the springs. Just make sure the cent of the washer fits over the centering part for the pin and also is big enough around to support the base of the spring.
UNFORTUNATELY you may find this as well... the 2-3 secondary spring will break.... Now I need to go to they JY and get more of these. I also put one of these center springs in the 1-2 accumulator as well as the washers... so I'm going to need to find two more springs.

wow. That helps alot.
Thanks.
How deep is the hole that the springs sit in?...how "thick" should I stack up the washers for a better shift?
I'm gonna get new springs before I do this anyways.

I did like 2-3 washers on mine, I think thats conservative... I'm not sure, but I remember hearing people use 5. Then again I dont even know how thick those are. the bores are pretty tall, probably 2-3" I think...

ok....
so I jsut need to get washers that fit the diameter of the bore, and the inside diam of the washers need to clear the pin that fits down inside....right?

The spring problem is what I'm trying to figure out, I cant find P/N's anywhere and they arent even listed on hard part lists for the transmission, so yeah I'm at a loss.
If you find them, get two 2-3 accumulator sets, dont even bother getting the 1-2 one.

do i want to use (2) of the 2-3 accumulator sets....one for the 1-2 and one for the 2-3?
is the 2-3 accum set stiffer?

Look at the pics the 1-2 is only one spring, the 2-3 is two springs, an external and internal one, so Yes that will make it stiffer, PLUS the washers. That is what I'm currently running in my beretta now. And I'm going to have to find some more springs so I can do the same for the 96 project car.

ok, so how do you like the 2-3 springs in the 1-2 w/ the washers.....nice and stiff or just quicker....or both?
and also, can you order these springs at a dealership?....o will I have to stop by a local tranny shop?
and what about the shift modulator thing?...what brand and such should i get?Last edited by AWeb80; 02-24-2008, 03:13 PM.

I think the modulator comes with the rebuild kit. But it's a pioneer brand one.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

Mine is a Transtar modulator, PN 66820X its a TH440-T4/350 UNI Gas Dual Red. I'm not sure if it is Transtar brand or not, but it came with my kit.
I like the 1-2 with the double springs, mine when first built would chirp 1-2 and when WOT would break them free and that was with a stock 3400. Once I upped my stall speed on my converter it took a little away it didnt break them free but could still chirp the tires. And then of course 50k miles later it just shifts hard and QUICK, it wont chirp so much anymore but that may be due to general clutch pack wear.
As far as getting the springs I have NO clue where to order new ones from... I cant find that myself. Thats why I'm planning on going to the junkyard and raping some 4t60e's for the springs and valve body stuff I want.
