  • question about a 4t60e

    my transmission occasionally doesnt shift into overdrive. anyone have any ideas as to whats causing this? any info would be greatly appreciated.

    the cars a 95 grand prix se.

    Are you sure it is not going into overvrive or is it not going into Lock-Up?

        no overdrive at all at times

          Proving the car is operating correctly sans the 4th gear, the problem isnt a soleniod unfortunately.... as you have all the other gears. Somthing is wrong with the 4th clutch apply system..Will need to be fixed or better yet the trans will have to be rebuilt.

            more people i talk to, theyre thinking its the lockup. i tap the brake while keeping me foot on the gas, and the rpms dont go any higher

              to verify lock up get to car to cruising speed say 65 mph on a flat road and hold speed. Stay at that speed for about 30 seconds, by this time the transmission should be in top gear and lock up. now give alittle gas just enough to accellerate a few MPH, You should not see the tach flare at all. If it does that means lock up is not working. When in lock up the transmission become direct with the drive wheels just like a manual transmission car and will react as such under steady and low accelleration condidtions.
