  • Broken Final Drive and housing

Hey happy holidays first of all, second, how the heck did i make it home last night when i just found half of the diff cover and half of a gear on the ground! Its a 2000 impala and i needed to change the axles anyway but WOW. them stock 3400s are no joke! My buddy sold me a 97 Buick Regal w/ supercharger for like 100 bucks, motor blown and wiring harness is toasted, Could i use the FDR from that trans? I need to do this ASAP. thanks

I dont think you can, although the fianl drive gear ratio should be the same, I think the planetary gears are wider which may no work with your internat gear... If it does fit you'll need the houseing and the axle as the whole differential is bigger.

So i cant use it... that sucks... Its a 2000 Impala, 3400, Is there anyway of knowing what ratio it was? should be a 4t60e right? Anyway i would really like to know what one i need so i can start scouring the junk yards.... they're probably a fortune brand new and the ecm will be screwed if its a different ratio. Thanks

          I belive the 3400 ran with a 3.23 FDR. It would be a 4T65-E.
