1994 had the NVG in the cavi's & sunbirds cause they stayed 3.1mpfi that year instead of going 3100. That's my best guess.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

^yep... the 93-94 NVG is an exact copy of a 282, except it's internal slave. If you're looking for a true 282, then 91 was the last year. 92 got an external slave NVG, thats what my car has and i trust it just as much as i would trust a "real" 282....

any1 have an extra 282 laying around, i need to try a part. if it doesn't work i will send it back.
that bracket that holds the shift linkage, it is a 2 piece bracket, i need that top piece. any1 have an extra one they could sell me? i was hoping the 282 was in production longer so i could get a replacement from a dealer but i guess not .Last edited by dohcfiend; 12-20-2007, 06:32 PM.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

The only difference between the Muncie built HM282 and the New Venture built NV-T550 is the name.
There were actually four different throw out mechanisms used on the transmission.
The first was the long external throw out arm. That was used on Fieros. I'm not sure what else.
The second was the short external throw out arm. That was used on FWD cars, but I'm not sure if it was contemporary with the long arm on the Fiero transmissions or came later.
The third is the internal throw out arm. I believe this was used from approximately 89-92. It's essentially the same throw out arm as the short external setup, but with the bellhousing stretched around it.
The fourth is the hydraulic throw out bearing. I believe it was used from '92 on.
The first three throw out mechanisms used the same input shaft bearing. The hyd TOB actually uses the same bearing and seal, but with a different sheet metal shroud.
There were other changes to the trans, such as the introduction of plastic wear pads on the shift forks, move to the bigger, stronger differential, change from mechanical to magnetic VSS, etc. I'm not sure when they were all introduced or even when the change to NVG was...Current:
\'87 Fiero GT: 12.86@106 - too dam many valves; ran 12.94 @ 112 on new engine, then broke a CV joint
\'88 Fiero Formula: slow and attention getting; LZ8 followed by LLT power forthcoming
\'88 BMW 325iX: The penultimate driving machine awaiting a heart transplant
Gone, mostly forgotten:
\'90 Pontiac 6000 SE AWD: slow but invisible

one more option (as these ones are getting older and harder to find) would be the F23 GETRAG from and 00-02 2200 cav/alero/ect.ect...
correct bellhousing, DURABLE, and they can be found with low miles all over the place.
I am almost thinking of fitting one in my 91 Z24...
