  • i saw this transmission...

ok, so i saw this, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...QQcmdZViewItem

its for a 2.4l it says. would it bolt to my 3.1 or a 3.4? also would the fact that its a 3.42 gear ratio since mine is a 3.05. im just trying my options for my new build. my understanding is since that has been outfitted for the lower output engine it may be well suited for a higher power application. any thoughts?

a 2.4l uses a different bellhousing than the v6's. also the 4t40e is a poor choice for performance. it was designed for a 4 cyl with 155hp, then slightly updated for the 3400. some guys have put some power to em, but they dont hold up very well.

what kind of car and motor do you have and what are you wanting to do with it???

meh, it could be made to work but why? you'll just need to rip it apart and build it up with the 03 parts if you wanna put down any real power and keep it together

not even close. the n body came with a 2.4l isuzu 5 speed. what you can do is use the pedals, console, shifter, cables, axles, mounts, master cyl and line, ect from one of those, find a 95-99 cavalier 2.2l and use the tranny out of that. it will bolt to the motor, use the 2.2l 5 speed and clutch. this would pretty much bolt together without much custom work at all. however the isuzu tranny isnt the best, a 2000-2002 j-body getrag from a 2200 (2.2) would be a better choice. this tranny was in the 2.4l and ecotec versions of the 2000+ n-bodies. it may require a bit more custom work as far as mounts and the master cyl go, but then again the 2000+ master cyl and such may bolt right in. you would also want 2000+ shifter, cables, and axles.

aside from this, you need to be able to tune your pcm to turn the automatic stuff off. if you leave the automatic programming in it the engine will run in limp mode.
