I had noticed that while driving my Cavalier, it seemed a little hard pressing the clutch in. Is this any sort of common problem that can be easily remedied? I only was able to drive it for about 60 miles before the engine decided to give up, but even my sister, previous owner of the car, said that it was really hard pushing it down then it was when she drove it last. I thought it might have just been her since she's got girl legs. haha... but then I drove her Jetta and it was significantly easier pressing the clutch down in there. So i'm just wondering, since I'll have the engine/tranny out anyways here soon, is there something I can do while there's easier access to the components under the hood?

could be a rusting up pressure plate. while you have the motor out, have a good look at the clutch, if its getting down, replace it now. another area to look at is the cross shaft bearings, they like to wear out and the shaft gets pitted. also ive seen one of the tabs break off the release bearing and cause the bearing to cock to one side, making the clutch very tough to push.
