  • 4T60 vs 4T60-E parts interchange

say one has a bad 4T60 that they plan to rebuild. like in my 1990 turbo grand prix.

and this person also has a 1993 4T60-E that has a 3.73 final drive and 3,000 stall converter.

is the 3.73 stuff (what all is needed anyway?) and the converter backwards compatible to the earlier 4T60/440-T4?

are there any other items of interest in the newer trans that are considered a strength upgrade for the earlier unit?

'93 and and eariler TCs are compatible between transmissions. To make a 440-t4 3.33 to a 3.73 you need the the sprockets from the '93(3.4 tdc). get a new chain while you are at it.

How you get a 3.73 overall fdr

    Wcar 2.8/3.1 440t4 3.33 to 3.73
3.4tdc drive sprockets and original FDR

    3.4tdc 4t60e 3.43 to 3.73
original drive sprockets and W -car 2.8/3.1 440t4 or 4t60e FDR

the rest of the internal parts are basically all the same except for some parts at the foward/1-2 band area and of course the valve body and case.

Pat, there's another comparison related post over on the TGPForums if you want to take a look at it. I believe it had pictures comparing just about every part of a naturally aspirated 4T60 vs. a 60-E transaxle(also a 65-E).

cool stuff i'll check that out.

everywhere i look i can't find anything clutch pack wise for the 4t60 that i want to use. i know i will cook a stock replacement clutch pack setup in short order with where i'm going with this car. my normal auto trans rebuild supplier doesn't differentiate the turbo vs n/a nor do they carry any sort of performance frictions for the clutch packs.

i am going to build the trans myself so i can afford an LSD

Oops, I was mistaken. The comparison was of a 4T60 vs. 3T40 vs. 4T65-E.

I sent you a PM by the way Pat.
