  • Miss-information RWD trans - FWD

I was looking through some old posts, found this link :

pretty sure this is wrong :

The Jeep/Dodge AX15 5-speed, the Jeep NV3550 5-speed, the Jeep NV1500, the Toyota R150F & R151F, the 87-92 Toyota Supra Turbo R154, the Isuzu AR5 and the Pontiac Solstice\Saturn Sky\Chevy Colorado\ GMC Canyon MA5 5-speeds all share the same case to bellhousing bolt pattern (Large Pattern). As such there are a number of possibilities that can be had when a 5-speed is desired:

96-00 Dakota 2.5L bellhousing: Connects all to any Jeep 2.5L L4. Because of it's GM 60 degree V6 inherited bolt pattern, also works with any Buick FWD V6 and supercharged V6, any Chevrolet 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6, any Cadillac 4.1/4.5/4.9 V8 and with a minor modification, any Olds Aurora DOHC V8 and Cadillac DOHC Northstar V8. Also bolts to any Isuzu 3.2\3.5 DOHC V6 and Holden (Australia) 3800 V6.

    2.5L Dakoty Bell :

Isn't the stater pocket on the wrong side for the SC3800 or any FWD 660 for that matter ?? Maybe it does fit, maybe there is enough clearance??

Just wondering... I want a 660 Turbo Powered Jeep Wrangler in my drive in the next couple years... WITH a front drive 660 block, to make it "interesting"....

    Thanks.

thats not correct. it will bolt right onto a rwd 660, however the starter pocket is on the wrong side for a fwd gm v6. it would bolt to a caddy 4.1/4.5/4.9, but again, starter is in the wrong location. it will not bolt to a 4.0l olds or 4.6 northstar without some serious mods (need to clearance for the starter and move pne bolt hole location). it will bolt to a 3.2/3.5 dohc isuzu motor, but again, starter location is the issue.

I wonder what's the worst that would happen if one were to hack out whatever matl' is in the way...

"redneck engineering" as you could call it...

      Just might work ?

if you cut out a hole for the starter, id have a pocket welded in for strength. just cutting it will weaken the bellhousing significantly.

Since I wrote the article in question, I guess I'll defend the data I've put up. The article is not and was not ever meant to cover every possible combination one can think of. When I said the Dakota and Jeep bells bolt to any GM 60 degree bolt pattern motor, that is true. It is also true, one will have problems if using the Dakota bell on an FWD motor with the starter on the drivers side, but, as pictured below, not an insurmountable one.

The starter pocket cut out really should be welded up for strength, but, as demonstrated, it got the swapper pretty much where he wanted to go.

Remember, there are inherent issues putting parts together that weren't designed to work together from the factory. The article is meant as a means to get one started, not answer every question or problem one may encounter. Hope it was helpful.

            Thanks for the reply, Greg.

That article there is an awsome resource, and I thank you for compiling it.

            Cheers!

If you really, REALLY want to hook up a Jeep AX15 transmission to a 660, there is another way to do it. Depends on how much you want to spend.

Method 1. Dakota bellhousing. Already discussed.

Method 2. Camaro "twin pocket" bellhousing hooked up to a Novak AX15 4-speed adapter.

Adapting the Chevrolet & GM Standard Shift Engine Bellhousings to the Jeep AX15 & New Venture 3550 Transmissions

                Good info.

I am surprised no one on this site has made a list of all posibilities, and make it a sticky...

Now that I have my car tuned, and all the software to tune, and have PROVEN 300+HP reliable, I want my next vehicle to be 660 powered, and more off - road capable.

They are decent motors. Would be nice to know what we can slap them into and how much work is required.

                Thanks again!!

Maybe we'll get it added to the wiki one of these days...
