  • Did the N-Body Malibu ever come with a 5-speed?

Just trying to settle a dispute and need some knowledge.

Some nooblet at a car audio forum is bragging about things that don't exist. Check it: http://forum.sounddomain.com/forum/u...907&p=3#000057

He got rear ended and managed to unbuckle his seat belt, get out of the car and run 30 feet before it got hit. According to his description of how things went down (what he says is on the police report), some dude calculated that he had 1.5 seconds TOPS to get away.

It's like he's a screenwriter for the next Vin Diesel movie.

Well, he posted a couple days ago that he had a 380hp Malibu with a 3.1.

    I called him on it.

I asked him why he only salvaged his kick panels and CD player, when he had a 380hp car.

Here's what he (allegedly) has (copy and paste!):

    -tranny (5speed)
    -cams
    -valves
    -plugs
    -turbo
    -pully kit
    -cold air intake
    -machined manafold

I just asked him about the tranny, and he says it comes from a 1998 Malibu.

Did the 1998 Malibu have a five-speed tranny?

    Thanks!
I wish I still had my sixty degree.

I doubt it did, considering the fact that, no other vehicle with a 3100 in the 97 model year were offered with a 5speed. It could be if it was a 2.4.

Not that I know of. I do know that the Grand Am and Alero were available with a 5spd, but ONLY with the base 4cyl engine.

Cams? Plural? How odd. Must be one of those new 3.1L OHC engines.

Hmmm, where did I get the idea that the N-Body only came with the V6?

        Wierd.

No Malibu from 97+ ever came with a 5-speed or any other manual. Grand Ams got manuals, but not with the V6, Wave the BS flag on him 380hp 3100 Malibu? No.

As for N-bodies only getting V6, it's true at least for the 2000-2003 Malibu. During those years for a Malibu the one and only engine was the 3100.

Uh oh! I have a 95 grand am in need of a tranny (suggestions please) , but the engine is a 2000 3400, I was told it came from a malibu.

I know it is a 3400 and a 2000 and it bolted up to my tranny. What could it of come from, It required a little motor mount fabrication to keep new belt path, egr adapter, and a resistor in an adapter to keep alternator happy

How hard to put in a 5 speed
what is best automatic to put in it? what is a 4t60eHD anyway, all over net but dealer has no idea what I am talking about

5-spd swap isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but it has been done....

A 4T60E/HD was never offered direct from GM, that's why the dealer won't know anything about it.
