  • Th125 Lockup question

I have a 92 Z auto and my lockup isn't kicking in at all. The harness is plugged in and tight. The fluid is clean and shifts good. No SES light. It does shift a bit fast but I can adjust the detent to correct that. My question is what would be some possible INEXPENSIVE ways that would cause this problem. I went to a trans shop today and the guy was talking about valve body problems, fluid pressure issues, bad internal seals, he also said the solenoid likely isn't the culprit. What do you guys think. Let me know.

id start off by figuring out if its a computer problem or not. first, check your fuses and make sure your getting power 12 volts + to the purple wire at the trans connector when the key is on. if you arent, have a look at the brake switch and make sure it has power. if you are, attatch a peice of wire to terminal F on the diagnostic connector under the dash, get the car well into 3rd gear (50mph) and ground the wire out. this will bypass the ecm and grounds the solonoid directly. if it goes into lockup, you have an ecm input problem, if not, you have something wrong internaly in the transmissions.

alright thanks sharky. The F terminal is the one on the lower right side correct. I'll try that on the way to work in the morning.

couldnt tell you unless i was looking at the plug. there will be a 2 pins side by side and one right underneath, and on the oposite side of the connector will be a single pin, thats terminal F

couldn't the converter solenoid be bad, or would that cause tcc lock until the engine dies at a stop sign?

it could possibly be a bad solonoid, but 99% of the time they fail when they are on.
