im waiting on my engeneered performance lsd to arive myself (was shipped back to me nearly 3 weeks ago). i know a couple people with their lsd and they are extremly happy with it. its the only true clutch style limited slip for a gm fwd. i know there is a worm gear style avalible for fwd gm, however its over $1500. at the opisite end there are the teem green and phantom grip inserts that are realy nothing more than a couple chunks of aluminum and 4 springs putting exessive pressure on the side gears and carrier that can cause pre-mature wear and even diff failure.
id go with the ep one. ill grab some pics once i get mine, if it ever gets here

Phantom grip is steel, not aluminum... it doesnt cause exessive wear as I've had in my transmission for over 30,000 NEW YORK CITYmiles without an problem...And finally I've never heard if it breaking but I have heard of EPs cracking and seen pictures.... EP still pushes on the side gears with springs as well so.....Lorenzo

yes they do, however they have clutches behind the side gears. the pressure is transfered from the side gear to the carrier, with that pressure the oil cannot get behind the sidegear and when the side gear does spin with no lubrication, it just starts to eat away at the carrier. city driving, likley wont see it, however i have seen it happen in an f23 getrag in a car that was used for autocrossing. wore the side gears and carrier out.
some people have good luck with the inserts, i see it as a half assed attempt to have a limited slip. honestly if it was such a great design it would be used in offroad trucks, street rods, ect by major manufacturors like currie enterprise, mark williams, strange engineering, richmond gear, ect. ive never even heard of anyone using one of these inserts aside from in a fwd.

Agreed. They are only used where a true LSD replacement is not available. Cheep simple and work for a while. But they will never last as long nor take the abuse of a real limited slip.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

from what i hear the EP limited slip is the hot ticket, however getting one is another issue. been over 3 weeks since they claimed to have shipped it, and none of my e-mails have been answered requesting the tracking number, wich i was told i would be sent as soon as he could. if i ever get mine, ill be happy to tell you fist hand how well it works.

CALL HIM... he has lots of trouble with his ISP and e-mail. That is the only true way you'll get a hold of him.
Also remember this is just him running this side business off of his normal garage work he does.
I will vouch for this unit. I had one a while ago, and I actually did kill the clutches with my nitrous and beating the living chit out of it, I sent it back for new clutches and possibly a redesign since I was NOT able to remove my axle without breaking the axle clip off inside the trans.
I told him to take his time and well he did, that was my mistake to say that, but when he got done he sent it back to me FREE of charge. NEW clutches, NEW plates, NEW springs, and he redesigned it so the face of the spider didn't need to get machined so that left the location for the axle clip to reside and allow for easy axle removal. Since he changed that, he had to shorten the springs a tad, but right now they are SO close to coil bind it’s not even funny... I was playing around the other day and dry roads, going uphill it spins both tires EASILY even if I turn back and forth they both still spin and the car goes straight sometimes that’s good, others it’s not.
This is a 4t60e EP LSD

Installed in the diff
Even with the problems I had with my first unit, (which I think are partly my fault due to abuse and fluid choices) I will STILL recommend Jeff over those fake phantom grip and team green cheapos. As noted they rely on the stock sheet metal thrust washers to provide enough grab to prevent the tires from spinning... Sorry that just don’t work without breaking something badly.

yea, i would highly doubt they would even consider building something for a gm fwd.
well, i may get my diff in a couple days. i called jeff, left a message and a couple hours later i had an e-mail apologizing that it hadnt even gotten shipped, and he sent it international priority. fed ex says itll be here tomorow, i have my doubts though (border and such).

ever see the home made ones? It would work good for us if we didn't have to make those pesky turns!Brian

Yeah. I know a ricer that has something like that on his Del Sol. Either make turns in the rain, or break the tires loose if you want a smooth turn.Brian
