  • Performance 4t60e by Engineered Performance

    I know a lot of you are wondering where to get a performance 4t60e for some of our cars. And I thought you guys might like to know that www.engineered.net does performance 4t60e and 4t65e rebuilds. Jeff (the owner) has helped me through about 20 emails to get what I wanted straight.

    I purchased a perf 4t60e trans from him. I just paid him the $ and I'll let you once I get trans installed. This should be roughly happening by the middle of July. My engine rebuild will be complete by the end of this month.

    I have this quoted from an email from Jeff
    I rebuild with performance shift and raybestos clutches, upgrade to 4T65 sprags, input clutches, 3rd gear Z-pack, 4T65 2nd gear drum and clutch pack, early (440) HD chain and gears, std 3.33 final drive (or upgrade to 3.73 for 200.00 more), your choice stall speed on a furnace brazed tq converter (up to 3500rpm), shift kit from mild-mannered to slam-bang full race (your choice).
    I originally wanted to go with ZZP but he never heard of a 3.33 FDR. So I said forget that instead of explaining that stuff to them.

    The TQ converter was an extra $300. I went ahead with a 3k stall because I wanted the car to drive as closely as possible as a Daily Driver car could. We originally wanted to do a 3500 stall. But in the end I went with the 3k. 3.73 gear upgrade. And I got the EP-LSD also. I'm not saying that he will do this for everyone but he gave me a free core trans which I thought was cool.

    I'll be updating this thread when I get the perf trans installed and the engine tuned.

          3k stall? Isn't stock somewhere 2k? That's gonna be fun to drive I test drove a 2nd gen grand prix once and it seemed so much faster than my car because my car has a 2.97 FDR. But then I got back in mine and mine was a lot faster but you didn't feel it as much because the gearing was higher. Hard to explain. The lower gearing made the throttle response feel better so I guess you think it's got more power.

          3.73 = RPM at 70mph? About 2500?

            it doesnt really make all that much of a difference, little bit here and there (fdr and stall)

            you would need like 480+ fdr and 3800 stall for it to "Feel draggy"

            hell have a nice cruiser not over revving on the hwy in OD anyways

              the nice thing about modern transmissions is lockup. when you have a high stall converter with a lockup clutch, when cruising it goes into lockup, so you end up with the same cruise rpm as a lower stall. the downside is lockup will be a firmer apply, wich some may not view as a downside.

                Good point about the lockup. But throttle response should feel way up. If you've ever driven an L body with the 4t60-e you know what I'm talking about. It feels sluggish compared to driving another car that is actually slower.

                  $2600 shipped back. And he was nice enough to give me a free core.

                  Base price is $2000 plus shipping back for a performance build.

                          Sorry to hear that....It's one of the main reasons I dont normally buy one offs from anyone I don't know.....I was really ripped on a tranny "rebuilder" on ebay with lots of "positive feedback"...Lost $1000. It was a 4L60-E for my old '94 Z28 and it shifted horrible plus the bellhousing was cracked when I got...I couldn't challenge the guy because Ebay shut him down before I could....I took in upon myself, based on my success with my own 4t60-e to rebuild the unit...Let me tell you it came out a winner. I'd build a unit for you that would knock your socks off.....

                              I've been talking to him through e-mail lately, I just sent a 3.29 diff down there for an exchange for a 3.06, and I need him to swap my LSD from my 3.33 to a 3.05, so hopefully he can turn that around quick...
